Odd lights problem Syntakt

On my Syntakt trigs 9, 10, 11 light up pink, white and yellow which appear immediately after switching on so I thought it would be a burnt or damaged PCB or LED but after calibration the problem goes away but will reappear after a day. I’ve tried test mode a few times and the problem isn’t visible other times it is. I’ve spoken to support and will send back the item but before I do is there any idea what this could be, I don’t think it’s a Pattern mute mode and the lights go back to normal and are discoloured again.

Hey, sorry but I’m not exactly clear on the behavior of the trig lights after reading your description.

Trig 9 is pink, trig 10 is white, trig 11 is yellow? They look like that during the elektron logo boot loader screen which displays the firmware version, and then they stay these colors until a calibration has been performed?

Ok so, when you go into test mode, these trigs are lit in these colors at all times, or they are lit that way when you do the keys test after running the error test? So, for example, when you press trig 3 and all LEDs should be the same color, those 3 trigs don’t follow the color pattern?

If this is the case in test mode, then yes this is most likely a hardware issue because test mode operates in front of the firmware, like a computer’s bios loads prior to the OS, so it’s unlikely to be an issue with the OS itself. I can’t say that I understand why it goes away after calibration, but regardless it’s not a normal behavior.

If the Syntakt is out of warranty, you could try unplugging and then reseating the ribbon cables which connect the upper and lower PCBs by opening the device (unscrewing and lifting the face panel), however if you have any warranty remaining I would strongly encourage you to follow up with elektron support on the warranty issue while it’s still available to you, particularly if it’s close to expiration or if the device is very new and you’re already having issues.

I don’t think that this is a behavior you can resolve through troubleshooting, but good luck with your device or the repair of your device, I guess.

Sure I’ve got it under warranty bought last October will send back next week I don’t think it’s water damaged nothings been near it. I’ve tried it in test mode and it was ok but tried again today and the 9, 10, 11 discolouration wouldn’t go away recalibrated again today and it’s fixed it again?

I don’t think that you did anything wrong and I don’t think that there is anything you can personally do to fix this. I would recommend following up on the warranty service and make sure that they clearly understand what the issue is because I wouldn’t be surprised if they sent it back to you without doing anything if they can’t reproduce the problem.

If it happens every time you turn the syntakt on, then it should be easy to identify. If it only happens sometimes, then I’d try and figure out when (like under what circumstances i.e. the machine is very cold and has just been turned on; the machine was on for a few hours and gets hot then turned off and back on again shortly after; USB is plugged in, etc.) and make that very clear to them so that you know it will be repaired and you aren’t just waiting for nothing.

Good luck
