For some bizarre reason when I adjust the Width control on the filter of my track 6 Static machine on the OT, it is also making adjustments to the CH9 channel on my Rytm which is on a Thru track on track 7. It is only the hihat that is being adjusted within the Rytm kit. Why would this be? I haven’t assigned any midi CC to the knob, I didn’t even realize that the OT knobs would send midi CC when also in use for audio tracks.
cc destinations for audio tracks can be internal and external … so just disable that cc out by making the midi setting be internal only
Thank you. I am sending midi cc on another midi track to trigger Scene changes on the Rytm so I can’t globally disable midi sends. Is there any way for me to access the midi settings for particular instances such as this knob change. It is just the Filter Width of this 1 particular track that is sending CC though it does have me worried that other problems may arise down the line re midi CCs as I didn’t see this one coming.
you need to explore all the midi options (and browse the manual), it’ll all make sense - you can selectively disable external CC or Note info from audio tracks without affecting MIDI tracks
PS for your issue with AR you may want to configure macro CCs on the performance MIDI channel - (again browse the manual for background info on the various uses for channels) iirc it’s set up the way the A4 is
So I had set the Trig Channel in the midi settings for channels 1-8 to Midi channels 9-16 and so by disabling the midi channel for track 6 I was able to stop the above action.
Thank you, I will look in to macro CC’s, it is not something I am familiar with, still very much getting to grips with both machines.
The octatrack encoders by default send out cc messages when on OTs audio tracks.
This is a completely separate behavior than using midi tracks for cc’s.
This can be disabled in the OT midi/control menu.
In general, unless you have an idea that requires different, it’s probably best to set:
Audio cc in: unchecked
Audio cc out: Int
-(This is the setting that makes the encoders send cc’s while on an audio track if “int+ext” or “ext” is used)
Audio note in: unchecked
Audio note out: Int
If your not sending midi to the OT, I’d go ahead and turn all track channels and autochannel to off, these are only used for audio tracks.
In general I always disable everything I don’t use and only activate what I know I need for my setup, to avoid possible unintended interactions…
And I believe what Avantronica is suggesting is to set a “performance” channel on the Rytm, and use that channel to send from the OTs midi track, to avoid unwanted things happening on a Rytm track channel…
@Open_Mike thank You, I took your advice and adjusted my settings. I have no need for CCs on the audio tracks and really just need the OT to sync with the Rytm and so I’m just sending the clock and sync. The only additional midi messaging I’m using is I have the OT tracks 7 and 8 set to toggle on and off a scene on the Rytm with muted applied. That’s really all I need at the minute. Seems to be running fine with no additional midi messages being sent at present.
