Octatrack Skips First Beat

I’m new to midi and have the digitakt slaved to the octatrack. When I hit play on the octa sometimes the first beat won’t play on the digitakt. I can shift the kick a fraction of a step or add one that only triggers on the first but I was wondering if it’s something wrong on my end.

Thanks,

Edit: the synced clock on the digitakt also fluctuates depending on what track is selected. Not sure why it’s doing that and if that could be the issue

Double edit: firmware update fixed it

When you’re ending the sequence, are you hitting the play button again or the stop? If the former it’s actually pausing the sequence where it is rather than playing from the start. That’s the only thing I can think of!

Hitting the stop button. I added an edit to my post about the clock fluctuating on the digi. Not sure if that would be causing the issue or why it’s even doing it.

Are you using any other gear? Is there any way you could be getting a MIDI feedback loop? Any way it could be getting clock from two different sources? I’ve had issues with duplicate clock and clock feedback a couple times over the years and a few different sequencers and drum machines would skip the first step when they had more than one incoming clock (whether it was feedback or other routing issues).

I have the midithru from the digi going to the midi in on the Bass Station 2. Any chance that’s causing issues?

I wouldn’t think so. Nothing connected to the Octatrack MIDI in?

Nothing. Octa midi out to digi midi in, did midi thru into BS2 midi in.

The digi clock constantly jumps +/- 0.2 and it doesnt seem to matter what it reads for the beat to play or not. But if I micro step it +1/384 it works every time. I’ll go with that for now since I can’t hear the difference

It’s totally normal with midi jitter in the clock. This is what you’re experiencing regarding the clock if I understand you correctly. So except for the first beat skipping Digitakt stays in sync with OT right? It doesn’t drift out of time and just become chaos? Have you updated both machines to the newest firmware? This fixed the issue you are describing for me. You might also have to start a new set to make it work after firmware update. At least I had to

I’ll try updating the firmware. I’ve been putting it off since I don’t go on the computer but I guess it’s time to pay the piper.

Really appreciate the help!
