Octatrack sample filenaming naming tip

One of my long time wishlist items for the Octatrack is for a copy buffer or other memory when naming samples. When recording a group of similar samples I tire of typing the same “base name” over and over. For example if sampling a particular piece of gear - let’s say an sh101 - it was slow to enter “sh101 bass 1”, “sh101 bass 2”, etc. each time I recorded a new sample. It’s tempting to use the Octatrack’s default time/date name but then it is very hard to find the sample you want later as they all have meaningless names.

Here’s a solution.

When saving the first sample in a series, select “save and assign sample” and assign the sample to the recording buffer (assign to self I believe). All further samples will default to the name you just entered. For further samples you can make a slight modification to the name and be done.

Now if only we could save to the folder of our choice (other than the project folder).

Alternatively I’m pretty sure function+copy works on text fields

Confirmed on the cut and paste. Wish I had known this before!

It’s really handy if you’re saving a project to a new folder, you can rename the folder, copy the name, and then paste it to the project name.
