Octatrack Recording question

Hey everyone. Quick question regarding the OT and sample recording. Is it possible to record a synth into the Octa WHILE sequencing.

Ie. synths like behringer neutron or the dreadbox. Can I sequence them with OT while recording them into it at the same time?

Thank you guys <3

Yep. You can also playback the sample while OT samples.
The eight recorder buffers are independent from the eight audio tracks.
Each of the recorder buffers can sample whichever source you like while you can use the eight audio tracks and eight midi tracks for whatever you want.
You could for example constantly sample in the background (overwriting each loop cycle) and grab the sample for playback at any point.

Even overwriting a sample when playing it!

Yes and you can quantise that recording to the same length as the synth phrase so no trimming required

Very cool

What about having the 8 midi tracks going all at once. Is it possible to record all 8 into a single audio file, use that as track 1 and further manipulate?

…if ot can “hear” all that midi results coming from the external gear at once, yes it can…

u got four mono inputs that can also work as two stereo signals…if u need more, u need a little mixer before ot’s inputs to sum up ur external gear before ot can “hear” them…

IMO that’s exactly where OT shines resampling and mangling on the fly. Sample almost any combination of external and internal sources, mangle, resample repeat. You have 8 record buffers that can be used no matter what is track machine.

That is literally so insane.

You guys are not joking when you say that the possibilities are endless.

Any tips on where to learn / how to learn this side of the box? Had mine for about 4 months, mainly learning pre-made sample / loop playback for daw-less performance but really interested in bring instruments to play and record live.
