Octatrack pauses sequencer after first trig when recording in Logic

Dear Elektronauts,
I have a problem with my Octatrack MkII and I would really appreciate help.

The problem is simply that Octatrack pauses its sequencer after the first trig when I try to record a track in Logic Pro. The weird thing is that everything is working flawlessly when I am just input monitoring the track. Everything is perfectly in sync (thanks to my expert sleepers Usamo) but once I record arm the track and record the Octatrack is only playing the first kick and pauses the sequencer (also shown on the display). I just don’t get it, I had exactly the same setup with my Syntakt and everything worked flawlessly. In my Midi settings the only things which are ticked are transport receive and clock receive. It seems almost like when logic is recording it sends an extra message which pauses the sequencer.

I would really appreciate any help as I am not able to record like that at the moment.

Welcome @Corbeau !
The sequencer can be stopped by receiving a note, or its corresponding CC 59/60.

Do you send notes to OT ?

No there aren’t any notes sent to it. The only thing coming from the DAW is the clock

Any note mapping / loopback ?

ARM sends a CC…

You can disable CC send for a first check.

Menu MIDI > CONTROL
CC OUT > INT

Thanks for the suggestion. No CCs sent other than recalling presets on synths.
Tried dissabling CC Out but sadly it didn’t work

Hey, I’m not too familiar with Logic Pro, is there a midi events log you can check? Even if there is no specific event that seems amiss, if you report what you see it might help someone with the troubleshooting.

Yes, a midi monitor would help.
Who’s the culprit message ? :face_with_monocle:

Also, just one thought - to eliminate all simple issues, the usamo - can it be removed from the chain temporarily to verify there is no non-sensical reason that it may be causing the issue?

I’m not saying there is any reason it should cause a problem, however before troubleshooting everything else and finding out that it is or isn’t the problem after, can you do a test without it in the chain?

I realize it requires disabling the plug in as well as the hardware and I don’t know how involved it is to do that, but it’s the first thing I would probably try if there is no apparent issue with the OT or Logic Pro.

@shigginpit Thanks a lot. It seems like it has something to do with the usamo. It worked straight away without it

No problem sir, hope you can make it work with the Usamo as well, but quite glad we’re headed in the correct direction with this. So first things first, can you update the plug in and any drivers or firmware that might be on the hardware? Or even before that, try to restart your computer rig. Full power down, then power up. Just make sure it wasn’t something of an anomaly.

Sadly didn’t change anything. But now that I know it highly probably has nothing to do with the Octatrack, I will message Expert Sleepers directly. Thanks everyone!

Glad you’re able to move towards a resolution, let us know how it turns out with their support. I’ll be curious to understand what the Usamo is actually doing if the problem comes up again on the forum here. cheers.

If you can use a midi monitor to check what sends Usamo…

Hey just bumping this thread to say that I am having the exact same issue - Logic Pro, USAMO, Octatrack seeming to get a Pause message right after the first hit. OT Has external MIDI Note control off and USAMO’s built-in midi monitor (thanks @sezare56 !) only shows Start and Clock messages being sent.

The only solution I’ve found, although unfortunate, is when I swapped out Logic Pro and tested the exact same rig with Ableton Live. Using a different DAW is never an answer anyone wants to hear (including myself!) but Logic seems to be the culprit here.

The really strange thing though is that USAMO only gets a signal from an audio cable sent from the Audio Unit plugin so I have no idea how Logic is handling it differently here to send some other kind of data…

Annoying !
@SIDEEYE I’d check (if possible) midi messages sent by Logic, see if there is a faulty message, compare with Ableton…
