Octatrack OS 1.40A: bug reports

I’m not sure if this is a bug or a feature but clearing a rec buffer in the quick assign menu is resetting the relevant track recorder’s QPL value from PLEN to OFF. This has been happening on both Pickup and Flex machines.
The weird thing is I haven’t noticed this earlier. Has this always been a thing or has something happened to my project file?

Confirmed. I forget which the ‘quick assign menu’ is - but yes, if I double tap the track button, then func+clear that buffer, QPL goes to OFF, QREC stays on PLEN or whatever

Per track midi mapping gets reset to ‘Standard’ across all tracks every time you exit a project and come back to it.

Just checked for the detail:

Power cycle, making changes to memory settings: track mapping retained

Switching projects, entering USB mode, entering file manager: track mapping lost

Very annoying, but on the plus side I finally got around to using midi loopback to control audio track muting with midi notes from the OT itself (using the Quickmute mapping and sending notes C0- G0 as toggles) - worked really well apart from the lost mapping issue

I haven’t tested switching projects, but I haven’t noticed the MIDI mapping getting reset when entering USB mode. Could it be that you saved your part before making changes to the per track modes, and when you reload the project it’s reverting to the previously saved state?

No. I tested with a new project where all I did was:

Go to AUDIO>MIDI>CONTROL>AUDIO NOTE IN and set to MAP/TRACK

Use MIDI + DOWN to enter per track MIDI map settings

Set all audio tracks to QUICK MUTE

Go to SYSTEM>USB DISK MODE

Then EXIT

Use MIDI + DOWN to check mappings.

All tracks are now set back to STANDARD

This only happens on track 7, no idea what’s going on…
Trigless trig or trigless lock on step 1 on a flex/recorder/static track prevents a manual triggered sample (quantized manual triggering and unquantized) from playing the sample when the sequencer is running.
Removing the trig or microtiming it solves the problem.

Can someone please test this?

Just manual trigger a sample, trig buttons or track button+play when you have a trigless trig or lock on step 1.

Issues with Pattern Tempo in Arranger still not solved.
Seems like empto patterns and/or bank changes are involved:

Also the Tempo Window in Arranger mode looks like there’s a choice between Project and Pattern tempo, but there’s no way to choose. The “false choice” should be removed.

Not sure if it’s correct to call this a bug but it’s definitely a deficiency.

Patterns with only parameter locks in the midi tracks will be shown as empty when selecting patterns. However one might very well create complicated Midi CC programming for external gear using only parameter locks. Since it looks like an empty pattern one might easily overwirte such a pattern by mistake. It makes no sense to indicate they are empty when they are not.

Tempo per pattern is broken outside arranger switching between banks too, i filed a bug report about this like, 4-5y ago? I don’t have high hopes this will ever be fixed

on MK1 the Arranger Tempo per ROW works, at least on my machine. I can open the submenu for Tempo of the row, which is usually left empty until i spin the Level knob from there i can have the lowest value which is [ ](empty==not set) then above PATTERN followed by all values beginning with 30 up to 300 bpm. The value is set no matter how i leave the submenu.

Apart from that when a clock signal is present and the machine is set to listens to clock and indicated by “EXT SYNC” in the tempo menu you are of course not able to switch to pattern tempo. Thats so on purpose, unless you turn off receiving any clock or simply do not send to the OT. Otherwise switching works with FUNC+YES when no clock signal is arriving even if the machine is set to listen to clock. As soon you open the arranger the row tempo is used, you can’t change the tempo either then, you’d do that in arranger in that row instead. I was able to set my row’s to PATTERN tempo while receiving clock, also while the arranger sequences, apart from the difficulty that rows are automatically scrolled when it runs, also fine.

Now imagine you receive a clock, the arranger is turned on and the arranger row tells to play pattern tempo while the machine is indeed set to receive clock signals… It will not suddenly become some sort of clock divider tool, it simply plays what the clock tells, i told the machine to listen. If 30bpm ticks arrive, it will play 30bpm regardless unless i turn off receiving clock or do not ‘ext sync’ one.

In short, as soon you receive a clock signal, your arranger settings regarding tempo are overridden. Very much purpose of external clock’s. Hint: you can set the machine to receive transport (start stop) signals but no clock ticks. In that case arranger row tempi become the ones to follow.

So i can’t reproduce the bug, but the devil can be in details… so maybe someone checks twice your report at elektron just to be sure.

Yes, per row BPM in Arranger works for me too.
I don’t use midi clock in.

How strange, that makes Pattern Tempo quite useless then since it doesn’t work properly in Arranger either.

It works if you stay within the same bank but starts to trip up if you switch between different pattern # on different banks. Mailed back then + few months ago, got a friendly reply twice that they would look at it soon™

Honestly i’m patiently waiting for them to discontinue the OT so whizzkids can make an unofficial OS like on the Machinedrum.

If you set a oneshot record trig on a pickup track, arming it while on another track brings up the message “ARM REC TRK” but it won’t actually arm it and record. You have to have the pickup track selected for the oneshot record trig to work as expected.

Haven’t tested with the MIDI record arm message yet.

Indeed. No very surprising as Pickups recording commands are for active track. I can’t remember exactly for what reason I struggled with Pickups in that concern.
Would be interesting to test with midi.

Do you want to record from a specific step ? Another specific use case for Pickups with one shot rec trigs ? (Rather than QRec)

Uhh not sure at the moment tbh, I’m just experimenting with a bunch of things to see what works and what doesn’t.

Just found this and very excited if I’m the first to discover this

TYPO

New Project

Go to Project > Banks > Reload Cur Bank

“This bank has never ben saved!”

“ben” should read “been”

Could be for when you want to sample another track into the pickup - playing it chromatically, tweaking parameters - and you want to initiate recording in time

My Octatrack 1 keeps crashing when I leave it for a couple hours. Is that normal? I am on 1.40

USB connected to a Mac ?
