Hey,
Just wondering your thoughts in a quick question. I’m primarily a guitarist in a sort of cheesy cover band. Lol. The typical music, really but we have a number of songs where we incorporate synths that I play. Certain songs like Hungry Like the Wolf or Once in a Lifetime, for example, could benefit from those underlying arpeggios. However, my synth doesn’t have two parts. I was thinking about a sampler to cover some other parts and was thinking about picking up an MPc Live 2 but I’ve also considered an Octatrack. Was sort of thinking I could make the parts required in Ableton and bounce and play as samples. Any thoughts?
My personal interest in music is much different than the band music so the gear will be used at home for more of what it was intended for. Thanks for any help!
It gets very tricky very fast because you are playing live with live musicians and your samples will be pre recorded and fit to a tempo. Unless you’re one of those cover bands where the drummer has a click.
One solution around this would be to have those arps at around the right tempo, and they only last, say, a bar or two, and you physically play them to sort of “refresh” it
Or just not care about timing of arps and such.
Did you plan to play synthesized parts? Maybe a keyboard/synth with an arp function (for once in a lifetime) would be better?

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking as well. I play synth on a number of songs and was planning to keep doing that, but since my synth only plays one part I can’t have it run arps while I play. Was also thinking for songs like Rock and Roll is King by ELO, there’s lots of samples in the chorus and solo that stand out. Not sure what’d be the best fit for performing something like that, whether it’s the OT or MPC. Maybe more suited to MPC I guess?

If it’s just basic sampling and triggering samples a SP-404 would suffice. Though it is limited considering you would like to use it outside of the band.
