Recently purchased Octatrack MKII - got it home, plugged it in, all good - removed the protective screen (like I always do) and noticed that the screen was scratched. Returned to the retailer, got a replacement - same procedure and finger print inside the screen this time! Received my third Octatrack this week and all seems to be well.
The point I am making here is that I have noticed a lot of people leave the protective screen on to save the screen from damage. Well, I would advise removing it as you might get an unpleasant surprise. Just thought I would let you know.
I have had seven Elektron machines in the past and have never had a problem with any until now - maybe just bad luck.
I think I’ve read this already here. Even the ordering of events matches (scratch, then finger prints). Really strange … repost from a few weeks ago??
I’ve had a persistent issue where the shield came off the chassis (there’s a separate thread). I will receive yet another replacement unit on Friday and I will check for fingerprints/scratches straight away. Mind you, I had to send in various units for other issues as well and I really hope the next one will be “the one”. It’s quite sad to see the Octatrack, which is my all time favorite Elektron box and the one I’m most likely to take with me when I travel, riddled by such manufacturing issues.
Yeah, the third one I received is good and I did notice that on the four corners around the screen on the metal casing you can see the weld indentations - I think this was one from the new batch. But yeah, not what I was expecting. Perhaps this is the hardware upgrade they were talking about.
Hey mate, I noticed this too. It’s pretty glaring, I asked if I can get an exchange unit. No response yet, it was manufactured 2019 which is disappointing. I’m mainly concerned for issues over time as well as resale, there’s already a bit of defect on it fresh out of the box.
Bulges on all four corners of the screen’s metal casing, and my unit has weird hexagonal indentations all over the bottom in no obvious pattern, makes it look really bad. My Digitakt and Digitone seemed more uniform than this premium device.
I’m hoping they’ll do an exchange for me.
Edit: Turns out they won’t do an exchange for me since I purchased through a distributor… They said all of their recent batch had those hexagonal dents all over the bottom, though the screen bulging out of the four corners is unusual. Very unfortunate. I might return it and wait for a new batch to arrive in stock.
Yeah with that comment I was just being sarcastic - as there was no real update from Octatrack I.
Anyway, the shop replaced the unit three times no problem and I also submitted a ticket to Elektron and had a reply immediately from Ollie. I have to say the support was first class - but yes I also purchased mine from a store not directly from Elektron.
