Hello!
I’m gonna buy an Octatrack and after checking Online quite a bit, I still have the Dilemma: buy a MK1 with a new Mainboard done by Elektron in Sweden or getting a mk2 like new.
I tend to get the mk2 buy the mk1 with new Mainboard would cost 400€ less.
Which one would you buy?
Thanks so much for your answers.
I’d get the Mk 1.
A) Its cheaper.
B) I dont like the screen or buttons on the Mk2 and this is the only difference.
( I own a Mk1 )
The illuminated buttons on the mk2s are pretty clever. Much better to navigate in the dark (so if you plan to play in clubs/outdoors, that might be important for you). Besides that, OT mk2 has a few more buttons, many say it is a real improvement. Maybe it is for people when they first learn the machine. I’m happy with my mk1s, not missing anything really (and yes, I’ve played with mk2s) and with a new mainboard (also includes switches, encoders, display) I don’t see any real disadvantage there.
Especially if you’re tight on the money, get that mk1.
Thanks so much for your input. I might get the mk1.
Apart from the screen and a few shortcut buttons they are technically the same i guess. But it may be harder to shift when, or if you decide to resell. Apples and Oranges.
Thanks for your answer! Much appreciated!
If the encoders on the OT mk1 are the same as on the A4 mk1, then they are way slower than on the mk2. I find myself press-turning the knobs all the time because that makes them jump in bigger Increments. Otherwise I feel like I have to turn them so many times just to get to the value I want. The knobs take a bit of force to push, so it’s rather uncomfortable to use long term, ime.
Different inputs on mkII, too.
