Octatrack MIDI loopback trick to get pre-fx mutes

Hello, I wanted to share with you this trick I found to get pre-fx mutes without having to sequence within midi tracks. Note that this will take up a midi track per each track you want to mute, so it might not be as useful to you if you are already using midi tracks for other duties. Also, alternative midi controller might be a better solution, but it’s still nice to be able to do it on octatrack alone

For start, connect your octatrack in midi loopback(one midi cable to in and out of octatrack), then follow these steps:
Step 1: Parameter lock amp volume on all your audio track steps

Step 2: Select MIDI Track and the channel the audio track is on(can be checked in settings>midi>channels)

Step 3: Set note on midi track to C6

Step 4: Set CC1 to 25(that is the one for amp volume)

Step 5: Activate CC using Func+clicking encoder cc is on

Step 6: Set trigs on all steps and parameter lock them to cc value of 0

Now whenever the midi track is activated, it will mute the track pre fader. Deactivate it to unmute.

You could pretty much copy and paste this midi track to others and just change the channel, as long as you have plocked amp on steps on your audio tracks
Note: If you use different scales, you should set the midi track scale to the same values as audio track scale.
Also note that scene locks override midi locks, so dont set amp volume for track with this setup on scene if the midi track is unmuted.

Hopefully this will be useful to someone.
