Still getting to grips with my OT (this thing is deeeep) but I was wondering how practical the unit is to use as a dedicated media player playing tracks via the static machine for say a DJ mix (i.e. track selection, cueing ect) with a few live FX thrown over the top via the fader?
I guess the four outputs would still have to go into an external mixer for ease of use or could it all be done easily within the unit if it was set up the right way?
Has any one done anything like this live or could maybe point me to some good examples?

Hello!! The Octatrack can function as a complete DJ setup without DJ decks and a mixer. It’s great but using this feature there is one problem as assigning to static machine long samples. There is no function that shows duration of a track/long sample and a remaining time till the end of track/long sample playback. Any suggestions/advices/tips?
Decided to try using the OT for DJing. Oh my god is it easy and powerful. Cue and track tempo nudge, sampling the live track, plus being able to create your own rhythms and backing sounds with all the tools of the OT - it is amazing and super fun.
So I fancy being a bit passive and just playing some tunes and mixing dj style on the octatrack.
So far I have

[li]Got my tunes into the machine[/li]
[li]fixed start points and bpm’s ( internal beat detection was way off!_[/li]
[li]Setup a tune each on tracks 1 and 5 [/li]
[li]Press track 1 button, after a few minutes, press track 5 button and crossfaded all rather nicely[/li]
[/ul]
So is there any tips on making the process better?
I find choosing the next tune on each track a bit…

Hi there. I’ve been using the Ocatrack to trigger loops of songs for live performances lately but I"m now wondering if it can be used to DJ live without using decks in the audio ins. Tracks seem to go a bit weird when you’re not in the same tempo as them. I was wondering if anyone uses the Ocatrack this way and what experiences they’ve had. Thanks!
After some time off, I am now putting some sets back together. I made the transition from vinyl to Traktor a while back, but using control vinyl doesn’t seem practical anymore, having to buy the latest gear +software and using a laptop etc etc.
I would prefer to use the OT as a mixer, utilising whatever CDJ’s are in the club or wherever.
Whatever I do, I want the OT to be a part of it. Im thinking to go WAV files only from now on and mash up everything into sections & loops for the OT and pe…

here’s a live / dj set hybrid i did last week. the songs come out the octa main. didn’t use the cue outs since it’s a hassle when having more than two tracks (had some hihat loops as well). The kick is from the AR, as well as snare and some hihats.
Had an eureka moment when i realised that with the OT i don’t exactly have to use my own tracks exclusively

I love using it as traktor-in-a-box i do warp my tracks in ableton tho… tip: make sure the metronome of ableton fits nicely in the groove of the track preventing constant nudging to fit tracks in a tight groove…
My ableton warp procedure:
set start point of a track aka first kick (right mouse-> set 1.1.1.1)
right mouse-> Warp from here (straight)
Find the last transition marker of the track and shift it till all is tight
I don’t think it’s practical…

One of my users gigs regularly with 2 Octatracks only…
I rocked an OT and Tanzar everyday as the resident “DJ” in Bangkok for months and yeah I know it’s poss but I don’t think it’s practically but hey I’m trying to challenge myself to make it possible. I’d play ever night for 3/4 hours. I mean samples galore! I’m an OT head that’s for sure! Not I want two OTs I fact I don’t have any atm!

Ok, everyone has the right to his or her opinion.
I am wondering tho, what exactly you didn’t find practical…

Well the Ot does all the elements of the tracks and the fx, if you had twos the better to cover more or a drum machine. I never put actually wav songs in it because I don’t think the would work well
