Octatrack + Electribe ESX

Any users with experience using the Electribe ESX together with Octatrack?

Thinking about getting hold of the Electribe for drums, and let the Octatrack do MIDI/SAMPLES/ARRANGMENT.

Or will the electribe be redundant?

Best Regards

The ESX is a different beast, its far more suited to srums & perc than the octa in my opinion. You must be aware that most of the samples slots are mono 16 bit though so you may have to convert your libraries before use.

the EMX is my fist drummachine and still is one of my favourite to create melodies ,i am recentely playing with OT and korg just connected via midi to sync the clock and making the sound from the EMX going through the OT for extra effect.
check my video to se how i use the two machine together.

I Agree that the ESX works great for Drum parts, it also gives you 2 more sequencer channels for external gear, total of 10 with the OT, And some of the effects are pretty decent.

I too use the esx with the ot as the esx has the strenght to play a really powerful bass range that is perfect to let the drums and perc bang out in the mix.
OT for me cannot handle that range of frequencies and is prone to distortion everytime you try to get a serious bass extension.

I have not had this problem with the OT.

This is very enjoyable. One of my jam-mates uses the EMX and man, does it have character.

OT and ESX1 is a very powerful and easy to use combo. i’d say that the only thing missing from the ESX to be a perfect companion is microtiming. sooo if you use and abuse said feature on the OT like I do, you’ll probably wind up using a midi track to control the drum parts instead of using the 'tribe’s internal sequencer.

i’d also recommend changing the tubes to something more decent than the originally supplied ones.

aaand i’d recommend abstaining from using most of the ESX1’s onboard effects - most just pale in comparison to the FX on the OT.

you havent explained how you set the two up at all… would be nice to see what you did in the menu to get them running in time etc and how you select midi channels …
