So the Erica Synths Black Sequencer now is able to receive Midi In. That would make it a fantastic Midi-to-CV converter (beyond what it is capable of anyway). We could send four Midi tracks from the OT right into our Modular. Sounds great. So I tried to make this work.
I send Midi-Out from the Octatrack into the Black Sequencer. I setup the BS to send Midi trough on CV 1, using Midi Chanel 8. And it happens: nothing.
Now, since I have not much experience with the OT and the whole Midi world, I wonder where the problem is. Do I need to setup anything else on the OT? How do you test if your Midi signals are working as expected?
Today I gave the OT / Black Sequencer Combo another try. And, to my surprise, it worked now as expected.
And, to be honest, this is a fantastic way to connect both worlds. Last week I also tried to connect the OT to my rack using the CV.OCD, which is also pretty great. But having access to four full channels of Midi is another level. Oh, and the Black sequencer now receives midi clock as well. I distribute it across the system and now all modulation sources line up quite nice as well.
Only thing I need to figure out: Should I send the four voices into the OT (for further editing or recording) or send them right into Ableton through my audio interface, so I can multitrack my sessions.
