Here is something I would like to do, but I’m not sure is possible:
I want to route my AK through my Octatrack MK2 in such a way that I can add distortion from an Analog Drive pedal to any one (or more) of the four AK tracks.
So I imagine I would send all 4 individual track outs into the Octatrack inputs (ABCD). But in such a scenario I don’t think doing a cue out to the AD would work, because I have no more inputs in the Octatrack available to return the AD output.
Does anyone know of a solution that would work to achieve what I’m aiming for? If there’s a way to do it without involving the Octatrack at all, I’m down for that solution as well.
I would do it the way you described and merge the OT main and cue outputs with a little mixer/merger or audio interface…or you could get a mixer with a aux/send.
Side question: Why do you need the individual outputs if you route all the outputs to the same effect?
To answer your question, I don’t want to route all the outputs to the same effect at the same time. I’d like to have the ability to have one or more tracks routed through distortion, and preferably individual dry/wet controls.
I’m thinking the only way to properly do this is your suggestion to get a small mixer with aux/sends.
a less elegant solution is to disconnect the clean tracks from the Main Out(s) and only send the mixed driven tracks to the drive (these will be wet with AK fx potentially) then the other AK tracks can be collected from the individual outs (no fx) and mixed in with a mixer (w fx?)
this is only allowing you to soft route tracks - it’d surely be easier to re-plug the send from an individual out and take that track off the mains, that way you keep AK fx on the other 3 tracks
I see, then i guess a mixer would be a good investment. I don’t know your setup and how/where you work with it, but maybe the SplitMix4 is enough if you need a small passive solution. I use one to merge some devices, but i guess that’s not really your scenario.

Look out for a audio patchbay. You’ll find them used for around 30 or 40€.
That’s what I did. In that way you can send everything in and out octatrack. Much cheaper than a mixer and very flexible. Only thing is you can’t level on the patchbay.
