Octatrack -> Ableton Sync/Recording

Hi,

is there any way to sync the Octatrack with Ableton without needing new gear? I want to record multitrack from the Octatrack into Ableton and then after recording overdub something new with the Octatrack again. So I want to start the recorded audio in ableton and play something new over it in sync with the octatrack. is this possible?

thanks a lot!

Hello, You can try that method from youtube video…
I want to record multitrack from the Octatrack into Ableton

you only have 2 stereo or 4 mono… with the use of the cue output as a second separate output (studio mode) WHY NOT resampling and Free up space on the OT to overdub then… ?

Thanks for that! Will try this out

hello,

It is very annoying that the midi clock is not well “delay compensated” in ableton.
ableton recently fixed the delay compensation for track automations but not yet for midi clock…

if you decide to go for ableton with hardware i recommend to get an ERM multiclock or similar if you can afford it if you want no brainer sync, or use overbridge if you have a A4, AK or AR.
Else you have to manually synchronise a click track EVERY time you add a device that adds delay in ableton (comp ect…)
But once you have a fixed ableton session, you calibrate the midi clock delay in ableton with a click track and record your tracks one after an other with no special problem.

also be sure to set the driver error compensation in ableton.
just follow the ableton lesson to mesure the real latency of your computer/audio interface and setup the apropriate compensation in order to avoid timing issues with your recordings.
