I know the octatrack is working in 44k, and that when importing samples via usb they need to be converted or else they will play back at a slightly different pitch and speed. Does the same apply to sampling from daw (the daw is set to 48) into octas inputs a-d, and when recording octatrack back into the daw (daw at 48k). Is it best practice to just make sure my daw/interface is at 44k whenever using the octatrack?
It makes no difference as they aren’t connected digitally. You’re sending audio out of the interface into the octatrack, any rate will work. Same the other way round.
None of my daw projects are in 44.1k, usually they are set to 48k or 96k. My mixer/interface doesn’t even allow 44.1k as an option…
This shouldn’t really be a problem unless you are planning to drag/drop files from the project onto OT via usb.
Your audio interface will be converting your daw 48k digital signal into analog by the time it reaches the cable. OT only sees the analog signal in the cable and does its own conversion to digital when it receives it. And vice versa the other direction
