Hi all,
I’ve been building a software instrument for macOS (PC coming soon) called OC8NT and I’m looking for beta testers. It will be very familiar if you live on Elektron boxes: 8 tracks, 16 steps, trig conditions and p-locks. It is build from the ground-up for seamless plug-and-play integration with Push 2 (optional) in case you have an old one laying around.
The sequencer
- 8 tracks × 16 steps on one screen. Each step is drawn as the waveform it plays.
- Trig conditions and parameter locks on every step.
- Ratchets, arps and note cycles
- Per-track START/END, rotate and reverse, and different track lengths and speeds for polymeter.
- ENERGY: All sound engines and effects can be modified by this one mega-macro without needing to program anything.
The sound
- 40+ sound engines: wavetable (W8VE, including resample-a-step-into-a-wavetable), multi-algorithm kick, hats, snare, ultra acid (subtractive/additive synth with modeled 303-type filter), physical modeling, feedback oscillators, sampler (with live resampling and granular playback) and more. Every engine has its own pop-out GUI editor or use the 8 knobs to mirror the Push.
- A sampler on every track in addition to the sound engine.
- An LFO, ENV and MSEG lane under every parameter. Just press a single button to map a random LFO/envelope to a parameter. Limitless unique LFO’s envelopes.
- Metal accelerated spectral effects
- An eight-stage chain per track: synth, sample, shape, filter, motion, delay, reverb and finish. All original extremely high quality effects, that are designed from the ground-up to never click even with stepped parameters.
- Filter: various models, dual F1/F2, linked, 6/12/24 dB slopes, dry/wet.
- Delay: clean, spectral, or KODAMA modes, where each repeat is vaguer than the last.
- Reverb: two engines with a blend, including convolution with built-in impulses.
- Reverb/delay bleed: tracks can share the same room.
Performing
- Patterns that evolve away from “home” and always come back, plus timed morphs between patterns over 1–16 bars.
- Mutes and solos saved per pattern.
- CONDUCT: draw a gesture on an XY pad and it loops.
- Motion FX (sphere, ghost, metamorph) replay the last bars in their own order, or turn one track into another.
Never lose a jam
- Retro capture keeps the last 16/32/64 bars of every track and the master. A history keeps up to an hour.
- Drop a capture into COMPOSE, a simple timeline/DAW, to arrange it.
Visuals and video
- Built-in reactive visuals: Ridge, Flow, Ring, Orbits (each track as an orbit), and accepts MilkDrop presets. Palettes, plus 16:9, 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1 frames for posting.
- It films itself: generate a 4K60 video of your performance from COMPOSEe pop-out editors moving with the sound.
Hardware
- Ableton Push 2 is supported but optional. There’s also an on-screen virtual Push.
The beta
- FREE (but closed source), standalone app for macOS 11+, on Apple silicon and Intel. PC version soon. The free version doesn’t host plug-ins, and it isn’t an AU/VST itself.
- Beta builds stop making sound 60 days after they’re built. Projects still open, save and export.
- No data collected.
- A commercial version that accepts VSTi and MIDI plugins may be considered. iOS is also planned.
