Hey @zfigz, how did import duties on your belongings work? I had to fill out a list of “goods to follow” upon my initial landing in Canada.

Canada is a good place for a nice long vacation though !

And you ( and AZ too ) don’t have as many Canadian Snowbirds :bird: around now either. Like 40% or something decided to “Take off, eh!” – and for good reason.

As for reasons, i’m thinking of Jasmine Mooney, and Tania Warner, for instance. ( Do a web search on either. )

I have been trying to come up with places in the U.S. most like Canada. It’s not a big list any longer.

I am going to remember right now how welcoming Canada was in the 1960s and 70s to tens of thousands of US war resisters - Thank you Canada !!

haha, dude…we didn’t even pay storage for any of our stuff that was in storage from the interim (4mos) from landing and signing off for it.

we were far far far too meticulous when making that list, too. they barely looked at it when landing and then again when signing off for it when it all arrived.

from what i remember, when our car landed we had to go to the immigration office here in Victoria to sign off for it, then for our stuff on the mainland, it happened in a couple of chunks; i went over first (to the border) to declare it once it arrived, we didn’t pay anything. finally, when we went and actually picked it up, we showed up and they (the 3rd freight for our moving company) gave it to us.

i wouldn’t worry about it. we didn’t have to pay anything afaik.

When I moved 20-ish years ago, you were allowed to do one large import of your personal belongings without charge. That included vehicles. Maybe things have changed, though.

yeah, i’m pretty sure that’s still the case. you’ll need to pay a valorem type tax on the vehicle when you register it etc, but that’s about it.

eight prime ministers in 10 years or whatever - no stability, no growth, some people have had no pay rises in 20 years, i have had no pay rise in 10 years myself, public services failing, lots of issues around freedom of speech and ideology related toings and froings at the expense of things being done for the tax payers!
i could go on but will be flagged eventually…
