NTS-1 as Effects Processor

This is my current set up: Cycles is the brain, clocking out via midi to Samples. The audio outputs run from cycles to the NTS as an effects processor. The output of NTS connects to channel 1 of the mixer and Samples outputs to channel 2 in the “line” hole.

I want to use NTS on both models as if it’s being used on the master channel. Any idea how to hook this up?

I’m a midi noob and these are my first pieces of hardware. Routing gets very confusing for me atm.

That’s what the Aux Send channel/s on the mixer are for.
Samples --> Aux send knob up
Cycles --> Aux send knob up
Mixer aux output --> NTS input
NTS output --> Mixer aux inp
Aux channel turned up to hear FX

Thanks for the help!
My mixer only has one hole that says “Aux Send” though. I don’t know where to put the output of NTS back to the mixer so they they play through the speakers

That socket right next to the Aux send might be the Aux return. ?

If you’re not using an effect that suits being used as a send (e.g. reverb/delay), you can run the output of the mixer through the NTS-1, then out from the NTS-1 into your interface/monitors.

Is it possible to set the fx to fully wet on the nts-1?

Yes. Hold the button for the effect and turn the B knob fully clockwise (as described in the manual).

Anyone know if these will fit the NTS knobs? Would like to improve the knob situation on the device.

Thanks in advance!

Just got one as a Christmas present. Any good effects people recommend to download? Mainly will be using it with my Volcas. Cathedral reverb looks to be a popular one.

If there’s no aux return, you can plug the return signal into inputs 3 and 4, or just 3 if it is mono. Then turn the output volume of channels 1 and 2 right down.

I’ll grab these this weekend. I’m honestly blown away by even the stock effects. Was just laying in bed using it with the Volca Keys and it takes it to a whole other level! Gonna have tons of fun with this!

I’m not 100% sure I’ll make much use of the synth features. Running the arp alongside the Volca is cool, but I’m wishing there was a transpose function.

Christmas is in 2 weeks, though, right? At least, that’s what I keep telling my kids!

It’s all fluid when you’re an expat adult that lives in a country that doesn’t celebrate Christmas.

Grabbed them. Really good stuff. Thanks. Decided I would stick with only free stuff, don’t need to bury myself in options, and I’m heading into a no gear 2022 challenge. Gotta get into the mindset. The stock ones are honestly really great. Awesome little box in the Volca tradition. I love Korg.

Wish it had a battery but I have a small USB battery pack that isn’t too unwieldy to use.

I found it difficult to use the synth and process external input at the same time. The levels were usually off, and there wasn’t much flexibility in adjusting them. (I now have equipment that can deal with this issue… but I also now have other synths I’d rather use.)

There are some impressive third-party oscillators, but they tend to cost a significant fraction of the cost of the NTS-1, and are really aimed at the Minilogue XD and up.

Thanks, yeah. I’ll just think of it as a really cool effects box and call it a day. I initially got tempted to look at the paid oscillators and then thought, nah, I don’t need more options. Like you said, I have other stuff to use for that.

You’ll be fine. It’s not like there are also amazing paid FX as well. :smiling_imp:

Not quite a confirmation but I put some of these on Korg Volca FM and Monotron and they fit well, even though the Thonk site says they won’t.

I would like to use the NTS-1 to process two mono synths, and it would be nice if I could load a user mod effect that independently panned the left and right channels before sending on to my chosen delay and reverb. Has anyone done anything like this or seen anything that can do this? I have the feeling it’s a modest amount of code but I don’t really want to go to the trouble of learning about the logue SDK.
