I’m not a fan of the sound of the Mono Station but I’m wondering if it could be an inexpensive solution for sequencing an external oscillator (Eurorack module)
CV/Gate Out from the Mono Station > external oscillator > Mono Station Audio In
Could I apply the Mono Station VCA and ADSR envelope to the external oscillator output?
What do you think? Is it possible? Are there better options out there for doing this?
That should work. The audio in runs via the vca and vcf like an internal oscillator.
Mine’s away for repair so can’t try.
Definitely better options available. The mono station has a very nice sequencer but it is very limited when it comes to i/o. A beatstep pro is probably a much better fit if you only want to use it as a sequencer.
Bumping this topic because I got one this past year and I don’t see much love online about this synth. HUGE sound, love how immediate the sequencer is, the lfo adds a lot to sound design, and the distortion is pretty grimy. Been using it lately trying to emulate 303 acid sounds in some tracks (not exact, but it’s definitely got it’s own character I happen to enjoy). Anyone still have one/use one? Tips or tricks/hacks appreciated!

It’s not my most used piece of gear but it’s a great companion to other gear. Amazing sequencer, super hands on controls and a lot of opportunities to experiment with the paraphonic mode and modulation.
Some tips you may already know for 303 style lines:
• use glide (3-4)
• short sequences work well (3-7/8 steps)
• Use accents for velocity

I will (most likely) never get rid of mine.
Even though I have a Digitakt, Digitone, Syntakt and a MicroMonsta2 on my desk, the Circuit Mono has its own cool sonic character, and the knob-per-function analog workflow combined with the sequencer is still so much fun.
I love using the CMS as an analog drum machine because even with all the Elektrons in my arsenal, I tend to create differently on the CMS and more easily get into what sounds like modular or DFAM territory with it. I do use it less frequently now that I have the Syntakt, but it still has its charms, especially when combined with the Elektrons to mix and match CMS analog drum patterns with other musical material.
Also, the CMS has a place in my heart as a gateway drug to getting my first Elektron box, what with the easy per-step sound locks and other related sequencer features. I decided I wanted more of THAT, which pushed me to purchase a Digitone, followed by the rest. In a weird way, Elektron owes those three sales, at least partially, to the existence of the CMS priming me to be ready for the Elektron Way.

Yeah I do like the sound, and sometimes make something I like, but then I forget where I’ve put everything.

I think the monostation can handle that. The Minibrute 2s works well for such things, and you’ll have a lot more mod sources from which you can draw upon due to its luxurious patch bay. The monostation is definitely a more compact option. I do love my brute bit it’s a big ol’ fella
In the web app (components) you can set different colors to the pads for the patterns or patches - let’s say blue for jazzy, yellow for bangin’ acid etc. that helps to remember where things are.
Deeply underrated drum machine. I loved all the circuits- they helped me get into the world of synths! They’ve all been sold though and this remains, partly because it works with Eurorack.
I have the CMS, and was gassing hard for an Erica DB-01. So I watched a few tutorials for the Erica and tried to replicate the same results. Other than the obvious different functions between them, I got very consistent results in sound. The motion sequencer is a big plus. If not because it was initially priced higher than the regular BS2, this would’ve sold like pancakes
