On the other hand, Novation might just like the Osc as are and see no reason for improvement.
Itâs funny how much I adore aphex. Speculation about a synth I donât need or want, and Iâm checking this thread like itâs the last day of the transfer window
Then you already own a Korg Monologue, right? Right?
I did. Turns out I didnât immediately turn into AFX upon unboxing, so I sold it.
The BS2 has had a couple of pretty big updates. I reckon Novation have invested their time and money on a new product. Would be a very pleasant surprise if theyâve tweaked the BS2.
Iâd be surprised if he ever actually uses one; just liked the colour of Korgâs money.
Part of the contract I suspect.
I love my all black microKorg!!
Aphex had a pretty big influence over the design of the Monologue, especially the tuning tables. Thereâs an interview somewhere with him and Tats shooting the shit and Korg hadnât even considered making the monologue microtonal until AFX got involved.
I think you underestimate how much of synth nerd AFX is. Iâd suggest his involvement with synth manufacturers goes a bit deeper than marketing manoeuvres.
Not knowing Richard, only from the interviews i read, i would think that too. He seems like a true nerd, in the best sense, and tries to influence companies to bring the tools that musicians help better to express themselves. Not sure if money is involved, that might be too, but that doesn´t mean that it is bad thing. The output speaks for itself. Microtuning on both, BS2 and Monologue (and there are other synths that support them too nowâŚDSI / Sequential synths, Toraiz AS-1 etc.pp.) is well implemented and easy to use.
You mind if I show this to my wife?
Well, i have no problem with that. I try to see the best in someone, until i got proved wrong, but i am also carefull and mistrusting. In this case, look at the outcome. Even if Korg and Novation bought him ten Porsches for his involvement, it surely was well done. Was his motivation purely money greed? No i don´t think so, he could have slaughtered the Aphex Brand much more, if that was his intention. And he could have let Korg or Novation do it. But he didn´t. Yet.
He needs to feed his family too, so it is for sure a motivation, but it seems, analyzing his interviews, that the main motivation is rather his ambitions as an artist. And does he do everything to sell the brand AFX? I didn´t see this. There are many others in the industry that really sell out themselves. Thats where i become cynical too.
The AFX Korg Tracks:
I have a bigger problem with the fact that he owns three Korg PS-3300âs. itâs like a quarter of them that were ever made. thatâs just rude.
He may actually be down to only 2 by nowâŚ
That picture is from 2016 when he was selling one of them on auction.
