Mine had a little wobble when I purchased it, it wouldn’t sit flat, but pressing down on opposite corners leveled it out. No issues since. I’ve had a similar thing happen with a couple of other pieces of gear as well. Never had any other bends or overheating in the 2 years I’ve owned it. Not saying it hasn’t happened, but I haven’t seen anyone else mention it.
“it gets warm” is expected with some analog equipment, extrapolating that to mki “overheating” is more than an exaggeration over that analog synths in desktop form often run hot, certainly my Elektron analogs get quite warm. My non-desktop form devices have much more surrounding space to heat up.
“We listened” that people prefer metal casing in general! I just picked up my mki and I don’t know what the reports are doing to “bend” it since I’ve tried to add a good amount of pressure and flex.
It’ll be interesting to see if the mkii case acts as a radiator for the heat and less of an insulator, which would be better for the lifespan of the device but perhaps not necessarily “cooler” than mki. The design decisions may even add heat from prior.
Anyway, there are fine reasons to upgrade, but there’s no need to “some people are saying” when the results aren’t representative of the initial product
As well, those complaints are not common on more active threads, like Modwiggler, here, or Gearspace, at least that I’ve been up to date on. Maybe I’ve missed something but the discussions are generally around the recent firmware update.
Ah yeah, that makes sense. I could understand a minor misalignment with plastic casing that can be “bent” into shape.
Hopefully didn’t come off as snippy earlier, as well!
Hey All, I love my Mono. I was just conveying some of the talk over in the Norand forum. And there is quite some discussion there in the firmware 2.0 thread and if anybody has been on that ride it’s been a bit rough.
I just pulled the trigger on a Mk1 and am trying to figure out how this box handles Legato/Ties. Is it only possible via slides? Can slide time be set to zero?
In record mode, hold the trig where you want the note to start, push the trig where you want the note to end.
And are you able to change the note without the envelope retriggering?
I don’t think it does legato.
MKII looks awesome, my name’s on the waitlist…
Looks like the remaining MK1s are on sale now everywhere. At least in all German shops they are listed for 698€ now.
Pattern switching via MIDI PGM Change isn’t working for me? Anyone else having issues? Mono is otherwise receiving clock, start/stop, notes and CCs as expected. Play Mode is Direct Jump (B).
Is there some secret setting I need to enable?
Thanks,
Jim
Given that the mk1 units can be had for a good price now, would owners of the mk1 recommend them or advise going for the new units?
That’s hard to tell until you have tried both ^^
It probably comes down to how badly you need expression with the key?
I have the mk1 and LOVE it. I preordered a mk2, but it hasn’t shipped yet. I’m very curious to compare them…
To me the price of the MK1 was justified because it’s a great sounding synth packed full of well executed innovation. If you can afford the MK2 and the extra features do peak your interest I reckon it’s worth it. That being said it’s not a cheap synth so if the lower price MK1 is going to save you some important cash, I don’t think you’re likely to feel that hard done by with the lack of extra functionality. The only risk is how much update support the MK1 gets in comparison.
So I ordered a mk1 mono. Excited to give it a go.
Couple of questions for users:
- is there a way to clear a pattern? I followed the manual but it doesn’t seem to work…
- is there a way to have the synth reflect the panel settings?
- just so |I understand correctly - the volume knob reflects the volume of the current patch but shift+volume is a master volume?
cheers
Anyone know what CC for Filter cutoff? 74 (per the manual) just turns the volume down.
Was there a new parameter spec with V2?
Also, PGM changes. No dice. Mono is receiving all other mIdi as expected, just steadfastly refusing to pattern change on demand dammit.
Anyone encountered any issues with either of these?
Thanks,
Jim
Anyone use accent CV out on MK1 version?
I’ve got a problem with sending Accent gate signals to Moog DFAM (to trigger its sequencer ). Somehow it sends some voltage, but it’s not related to accented steps in Mono sequencer. If I enter accent on a step, nothing happens on the output. More than that - if I try to change CV2 settings in menu there are Clock Out options, but if I choose them it starts send Clock to ACCENT output, not to CV2 output.
Is there anything I can do about it? Is my unit defected?
Please help!
Any recommendations for a decksaver/cover for the mk1?
