Calling dibs on your MK1 if you do end up gettting the MK2!
lol
100% singing! 100% dancing! 100% uminium!
i feel guilty now. it looks like such a great synth and iāve been waiting for this announcement
Thereās a lot of sloppiness in their written materials (first language is not English, but there are ways to deal with that), which is of a piece with their glitchy hardware and software. I like the mk1 a lot, but I think they are spreading themselves too thin, and Iām almost afraid to start pushing the 2.0 firmware in case I discover more flaws.
Ha ha, same here
Iām not sure how much of stakhanovistes they are, though
I read about people dealing with them in person, saying they were pretty laid back
Which doesnāt mean you canāt work seriously
In the msg exchanges I had with them (quite a few), they looked professional to me
I donāt doubt that theyāre professional, or trying to be. But there are very few of them, and they need to grasp their limitations. Ambition is probably necessary for commercial viability, but what check is there on over-ambition besides failure?
Yeah, I donāt take it as a knock necessarily. Theyāre very ambitious and a lot of the features are wild. Adding so many cool features while trying to stabilize things in whatever refactoring for multiple platforms, eek. I figure theyāll sculpt and tame it all but Iām excited to get back to the base operation
Not selling my mki but a strange move IMO which will affect resale value one way or another. Itās an under-utilised machine on my end so Iām gonna give it a proper fw2 massage before any consideration to sell.
I wish they built a diff voice eg granular as they mentioned in an interview.
I respect how prominent brands have a strategy to keep resale value high through scarcity and price increases but also shipping new features. See Digitakt is now 900eur.
By the way Schneidersladen discounted the mono mki go get it.
I knew I paid a premium for mki to support a new company with ambitious ideas and Iām fine but rookie business strategy moves annoy me.
Just replying to myself to answer my own question that there has been word from Mathieu in Norandās community that they will never abandon the MK1 Mono in terms of continuous development whereever feasible.
Thankfully (sadly?) any nest egg I have is diversified beyond monosynths.
Most manufacturers have had to retool product lines around supply chain SNAFUs, the need to revisit the old parts and change the BOM isnāt strange at all.
Correlation not causation.
Scarcity is the default, and price increases are in parts, labor, and cost of transport.
Literally all companies are addressing these issues, even monster internationals that own their own fabs like Behringer.
I acknowledge that Norandās ambition in features is causing a bit of struggles with the recent firmware refactor, but āresale valueā is absolutely not a serious factor that should be considered when releasing any product and antithetical towards using a musical instrument for its own purposes.
Sure, it can be nice, but I want to use instruments not become a full-time flipper.
- The new case looks great in person
- The new 3D keyboard (XYZ on each pad like MPE) is really great
- The 3D steps lane can change color and can be used to visualize modulation (iirc)
- The new drive circuit sounds good
A nice mk2 overall, with lots of refinements.
Howāre the knobs? I love the mk1, I was never into the knobs though. They feel good to use but weāre a pain to actually grip easily.
Somewhere upthread thereās a post talking about getting new knobs for the mk1. I will attempt this soon.
Same!
I couldnāt AB and I have the same feeling about the ones on the mk1, but these ones felt good when fooling around with the device. I think the texture is different and they felt lighter, but not cheap.
I did it, and itās a solid upgrade for sure. They feel muuuch better than the originals, grippy and satisfying.
Yep, just send a request and youāll get an invoice.
The sonicstate video is out and covers a lot of ground.
In stores end of June with a MRSP of 840ā¬.
GASing hard for the MK2
