I have COMPLETELY SOLVED this issue. By basically buying and selling gear and making hardly any music at all 
Seriously though, I can see this as being frustrating. I’ve made stuff I’m only mildly proud of and gotten a mild reception.
I do want to create something better, and will be interesting what the response is.
I have accepted that my musical taste is special, when i was 15 i went to napalm death concert, now i do dark prog, which is somewhat the same sound just in electronic form, its nothing for the masses, many will turn it off, but i cant help it, i love noise. Their album was called harmony corruption 
still i have a listen now and then.
Ofc i cant play it it to my family they dont understand. But thats their problem. For me its a form of meditation.
Yeah maybe a good way out of this is to buy massive modular stuff nobody understands but everyone is so impressed that nobody would ask for music coming out of it. Not even yourself. 
I literally did that!
Actually my modular rig was amazing and the sound it produced was fantastic. But it was too cumbersome for actual music production in the end.

Heheh, similar situation here. But she can’t stand the stuff i make, trance music. I’ve accepted it since day one though, she wants me to frame my releases and such so i guess that’s as far as i can get with that.
