NINA, motorized analog synth from Melbourne Instruments

Hi, I wonder if any synth firmware updates are planning anytime soon? Thanks!

Also wondering if a keys-version will be introduced before/at SB.

Got my Nina yesterday and I must say it’s an awesome synth. Also sounds so good!

I mean, I will sell my Sirin for sure now as I don’t see any use of it anymore,
and I’m seriously thinking about getting rid of Peak, because motorized knobs are a gamechanger for me, lack of them made Peak demotivating at times.

Maybe a keyboard version of the NINA?

Yep. Keyboard version. DELIA.

Exciting times! Much fewer encoders/motors on it though.

The synth itself sounds amazing but it would also be lovely if they became a Fatar like thing selling their encoder tech to everyone.

this one got me gassin’ a bit

So all synths are now useless because one has motorized knobs?

I guess, by definition, they’re not as… motivating.

Surely one day we’ll get an Osmose like keyboard controller with a huge set of MIDI 2.0 motorised encoders, a Continuum like touch strip, with a lovely screen and a built in computer that lets you run any synth you want and integrates perfectly with the controller for seventeen thousand gold coins.

Still actually tempted by the Nina but I think my OB6 would cry and still be used more eventually. I also like that it’s built on open source components so can be extended by users if the company stops trading in the future.

The best things with motor/encoders for me is the direct feedback and visual representation of the patch and the fact that there will ”never” be any skipping. This due to the fact that they sense the phase difference in the motor windings and not a carbon ring.

I would really like to see more contact less encoder solutions like this, or hall-effect based.

One thing i think clever is being able to turn detents on and off.

And different amount of dents per revolution :+1:

and seeing the modulation amount on each knob instead of needing the screen. That was probably the biggest surprise in efficiency.

If they could make it significantly cheaper with normal knobs I’d buy it.

The knobs are kind of the chief selling point apart from the sound and features. They rule.

Glad to see they aren’t just sitting on one product.

If anyone is buying this as the knobs being the chief selling point I’d be worried.

Too much red, maybe they are Essendon supporters.

It would look vastly better with some color changes on the buttons. Maybe some black, white buttons with one or two colours. not all red. looks awful
