New to setting up gear with MIDI

Hello Folks

New to setting up gear with MIDI. I have an AK, Digitakt and DSI P12 Module.

What I hope to achieve:

  1. AK keyboard to play P12 Module via MIDI = simple (AK OUT => P12 IN)
  2. Digitakt to clock both AK and P12 = Dimples (DK OUT => AK IN ) + above
  3. Live record sequences on Digitakt from AK = (P12 THRU => DK IN) + above
  4. Digitakt to sequence P12 = 1) + 2) ?

Any suggestions if this will operate okay? I hate logic but love synths!!

Probably works… 4 depends on whether AK will merge incoming MIDI with its own MIDI output. You’ll also have to carefully manage the MIDI settings and channels on all machines or you might get a MIDI feedback loop which will probably make something crash.

Ta, think perhaps run 2 x cable between AK and DK IN and OUTs.

Cable from each THRU on both AK and DK. Combine both (splitter) to P12 IN?

P12 will receive AK note, DK clock and sequence trigs?

The easy way, would be to let AK drive clock and transport.
Then you could go

AK OUT > DK IN
DK THRU > P12 IN
This would let you use the AK to play both the DK and P12, and the DK would sequence the P12
The AK would sequence itself

Another way would be to let DK drive.
AK OUT > DT IN
DT THRU > P12 IN
P12 THRU > AK IN
This should allow AK to play the DK and P12, plus the DK sequencing the P12, and letting AK play itself via DK midi.
You’ll need to find something like a “local keyboards” setting on the AK, you’ll want to turn that off so the notes from your keyboard do not trigger the AK directly, the notes go into the DK and the DK tells the AK what to play.

Of course you’ll need to set up specific midi channels correctly and make sure your clock and transport settings are proper. For now I would not use auto channel, wait till you get this all working.
