My biggest gripe with the op-z is how it handles sampling for drums. 1 audio file per track which you slice to notes. Apparently it’s the same for all TE products, so I don’t see that changing ever.
I wish I could sample to individual pads like an MPC.
the OP-z is the same as the OP-1, you are correct, I was just saying that the Pocket Operator KO (PO-33) samples more like you were asking (MPC style).
Yeah I was under the impression that Cuckoo was waiting to do a tutorial because he knew something big was coming to the OP-1F and he still hasn’t done a tutorial yet. I wouldn’t think the vocoder was the thing he was waiting on, and I’m pretty sure he made that comment after the velocity sensitivity came out.
OP-1F is a complete instrument. I’m sure there will be updates coming but with the original OP-1 it was always one major update a year and that went on for about 5 or 6 years and then the audio streaming update happened.
We did technically get the vocoder update this year. And the velocity update was last year. We may not get an update until early 2024, assuming they do what they did with the OP-1 of course which by no means they are tied to.
I get excited about potential OP-1F updates, but i’m also fully happy with the current product and i’m certainly not holding out for anything. To be fair though, while TE are not tied to the og-1 style upgrade/support timeframe, they definitely did allude to this platform being one they were going to support ‘for the next ten years’, and continue updating. So, I wouldn’t write off someone’s feelings about not getting updates, multiple early interviews and talks made their intentions clear and to deviate would understandably upset some folks.
more thots on the op-1f
That said, damn it’s even hard to envision exactly what to add that you can’t already achieve with this device. I get wanting some more modulation, maybe a different effect or two, or a different sequencer style to add into the mix, but it’s really full fledged and it’s a little powerhouse.
They aren’t going to shoe horn in a Tracker, nor is it likely to get 4 infinitely routable modulation slots. The OP-1F does things many other devices don’t even attempt, and I agree that it’s very complete and mature in it’s current state.
I only hope for some very tangible little things, (like adjustable EQ bands) and then I’ll happily take anything else they cook up and throw at me.
Yeah, I could see people being upset if no new updates ever came to it again but we are definitely going a long ways off from that sort of outrage being justified, like I said we still did have an update this year already.
Other than new synth engines and effects (of which I have no exact thing I’d want I just like the stuff they make) the one thing I know Id like to see is a key tracking “lfo” modulator where we can have a synth or Fx parameters value change based on the pitch of the keyboard.
it would blow my nips off if we got two LFOs to use in that slot though. I see no reason why it couldn’t be possible if the OP-1 can accept 4 different midi sources to modulate parameters. I couldn’t imagine an LFO would be that difficult to process. Maybe even replace the LFO with a second ADSR would be cool.
But honestly I don’t know much else that I’d want from the OP-1 at this point. All my problems with the original OP-1 were solved with the Field. And the OP-1 still has its own character that I’ve kept it along with the field anyways.
I agree! and damn these are some banger suggestions. Would undoubtedly be improvements without standing in the way of the essence of the device at all.
Given all the hints on punching and knocking out and stuff, I think it’s a stereoid version of their KO sampler, with drum synthesis from Tonic to boost.
