New Teenage Engineering products

End of an era

Did not see this coming…

I could not find a quote saying they will stop making synthesizers in that article. I think the title is essentially clickbait that is playing off of the idea that the product is not the end goal.

So I definitely would not be worried that they will stop making cool music gear.

Yeah, I also read into it that he feels ”synth” is a too reductive word for what they make. They make passion. Classic TE snobbism, so hopefully all good  A world without the TX-6 wouldn’t feel the same

Not a direct quote but…

“Just how far Kouthoofd is willing to take his philosophy becomes clear when Kouthoofd tells me that, as part of a reorganization last fall, he announced to his team he is planning to stop making synthesizers altogether.”

Was about to say the same thing. Along with “The OP-1 has made teenage engineering what it is. Counterintuitive as it sounds, that’s precisely why leaving it behind is the most teenage engineering thing Kouthoofd could do.”

Sounds like they’re following the Access Virus’ footsteps.

Weird. I never even thought of them as a synth company. I mean, in terms of actual synths, the modular is the only one, right? Obviously they developed synth engines for the OP-1, XY, and PO’s. It’d be bigger news to me if they said they weren’t developing music production gear altogther.

Forget gold bars and crypto, going to invest in buying as many op-1 fields to make bank in the future.

Someone has already made a op-1 firmware for the FM. -1

Teenage engineering. Used their syth’s as a design project. I think they look at their selves as a design firm not a music company

You mean sloop?

Yes

So by an insane coincidence, right after reading this article i went outside and walked past that new TE pop up store in SoHo (I live near it) and randomly Jesper was outside filming something with the full TE crew.

I introduced myself, showed him my Insta with all my TE synths, and said I was a fan of TE’s work. Then I pleaded, “Please don’t stop making synths!”

He just laughed and nodded, I don’t think I convinced him.

Tobias was also there and said the store is going to feature a “Build your own EP” (!) so I’ll definitely be checking that out this weekend.
