New Teenage Engineering products

Yes that’s correct

I had to redact my last statement since it wasn’t true

Hmm
the other thread shows similar but definitely different packaging, but they purchased from a retailer. I wonder if anyone getting them direct from TE will get this packaging instead. I did notice they mentioned Limited Edition packaging and I was wondering exactly what that is.

this is the Taschen Sumo Book G.O.A.T

ah, duh. careless reading on my part.

What’s shown in the Andertons video is this is the bottom of the packaging and the top is Muhammad Ali in his famous photo.

I don’t think so. You only have to look at how Elektron refuses to release anymore “flagship” products and that the Digitakt is their best-selling device to understand how the economics shake out. It’s all about scale.

Hey fellow Elektronauts!

I’m a proud owner of the new EP-133 by Teenage Engineering. As we know, this beauty is the first in what promises to be an intriguing EP series, poised to be the advanced siblings of the iconic Pocket Operators.

But here’s where things get interesting: what might the future hold for this series? Personally, I’m a huge fan of the PO-32 Tonic. Imagine an EP version of this! The potential for more features, richer sound, and enhanced creativity is mind-boggling.

So, let’s get the speculation train rolling:

What advanced features would you dream of in an EP version of your favorite PO?

Which EP will they release next? And when?

How do you envision the sound quality and synthesis capabilities evolving in the EP series?

I’m excited to hear your thoughts, predictions, and dream features. Let’s dream big and maybe, just maybe, TE will take some notes from our wishful thinking!

I speculate that this will get merged with the TE main thread my friend. But if I were to speculate, maybe an expanded PO-128 as it would be the closest to a groovebox format probably.

Not directly a Teenage Engineering product, but the design is TE, Rabbit R1…

I was going to post this up last night. I watched the keynote speech and was very impressed.

A lot of negativity popping up about the R1. Some of it justifiable, some of it scaremongering. I’m all onboard with the AI train though and get excited about these sort of developments and next steps.

If/when Apple and co get this LAM tech into their ecosystems it could be a real game change in how we interact with our tech.

Very interesting to see the technology transition from the workplace (where this is already available) to the consumer space.

I guess the obvious question is why can’t it just be an app, without the need to carry another gadget around?

The chap made a comment during the keynote along the lines that smartphones have become time killers rather than time creators. I think phones and the app infrastructure is guilty of causing that. Much like doing music on a computer comes with gazillions of distractions.

It’s a valid point though and I suspect this is the proof in concept hardware design that will be cancelled/closed down by end of 2025 by the arrival of all these features in the big players ecosystems. Or they get bought out by a Microsoft/Google/Apple.

I preordered one anyway. Priced low enough to take a chance on it and see what it brings and whether I’m ready for this bright personal AI future that I get excited about. It’s actually my other half that’s most excited. She works in a creative capacity in a press/PR team for a UK financial services company. Utilising AI for first drafts of various financey responses and things has huge benefits for it and she immediately tuned in when I was watching the keynote last night.

Great tech advancement. Miles better offering than any of the other AI powered devices. And at a crazy affordable pricepoint!

I thought the same as you @darenager, theres nothing this offers that an app on a phone couldn’t do.

I guess they are attempting to break away from Apple/Android though, maybe it helps to get away from the istore app rules too. Don’t companies have to pay a % of transactions done through apps from app store?

They might get a lot more uptake if in the first instance this was launched as a (stripped-back) app that did lots of things all within one app. Could see it being crazy popular.
Then at a point down the line they announce a piece of hardware that does all that plus more - only for 199 with no subscription. Whoop!

Cos at the moment it’s only going to be tech fans that buy this.
Average joe doesn’t want another phone-sized device in their pocket.

I can’t wait to be disappointed when I ask it to “make my music better please”

This will happen sooner rather than later.
With AI products like Magnific AI which upscales images and can also imagine to make them better, evolve them etc.
It’ll happen with music soon!

I think it is a difficult sell to the average consumer, another gadget to carry, that needs to be charged etc.

Big corporations are most certainly already working on similar things built into the operating system. I think the point that smartphones are time killers is moot if they implement this kind of thing, that they currently don’t might get a few people on board, but I don’t see this kind of separate device catching on in the wider market.

For me, the R1 has accelerated the timetable for where the market expects to get to anyway. Your big tech companies could have reached this point many moons ago but opted to spoon feed tech progression as per usual - hands free in cars to smart speakers to Siri/Cortana to etc to etc. Don’t want to scare those older (usually cash richer) demographics after all…

At the very least, this R1 will give the AI scene a bit of a jolt, putting things into turbo mode and, hopefully, will see quicker development and release of similar tech elsewhere.

Off topic - Any of you using AI for making music currently?
