New Teenage Engineering products

I believe this to be correct haha

for $299 I’d rather have this sitting, unused, on a shelf than the grip car (sorry anders hermansen)

no brainer, got that with a decent direct discount from TE.

btw the Pocket Operator Sequencer 16 is 59,- aswell

ok i’m trying to find something negative to say to help balance out all this toxic positivity.
I think I found something:
I think this EP series announcement digs a further grave for the OP-Z.
A lot of great features here, obviously not as sequencer focused, no synth engines, I understand the differences, but from a company perspective I think this might signal that the OP-Z is pretty ‘complete’ as-is. Maybe a refresh some day though?

Idk… I was thinking maybe my opz just got a little more premium… either way I guess.

Maybe. But also looking at their original launches we had:

OP-1, several pocket operators, OP-Z

Now we’ve had OP-1 Field (plus other recording equipment), PO MK2s…. Maybe OP-Z?

Obviously this is wildly speculative lol.

I think OP-Z didn’t feel like it got the same amount of love as the OP-1 for sure but it did get notable updates: a few new synth engines plus effects. I know they were expansions but the Rumble, MIDI and CV, and sampling expansions. OP-1 had yearly updates until 2016, then there was some updates like Shift + Stop to add more time divisions on the track and the last major update which was the Audio over USB. But the majority of its update cycle was the first 5 years. OP-Z is also 5 years old, approaching 6 and it definitely feels like a complete product to me.

I still would love an OP-Z Field or 2 or whatever. But it’s definitely gonna be a little bit out if I was to guess as we’re probably gonna get 3 of these larger POs.

That’s how I take it. I’m a bit indifferent to the new machine. It’s nice and it’s great loads are loving it but not convinced I’d get much use out of it. I’d rather spend her extra £100 or so and bet an OPZ for sure.

Still, going to watch a heap of videos on this thing and will probably end up buying one :joy:

This is awesome. I tried, really tried, to spark our old sense of needless negativity and look what has happened? People are coming to the defense of one of TE’s red headed step children, one of the least-loved, most bad-mouthed boxes they’ve produced.

This release has literally made everyone happy. It’s a holiday miracle!

For the record I love the OP-Z and have gotten quite used to it in it’s current form, I don’t actually have any ill feelings towards it. I think it was pretty well supported (minus some hardware QC issues) and would welcome a refresh at this time. Plus I got my current OP-Z for $300 new in the box, so what’s to complain about at all at that price, except maybe spending $99 more to get some midi i/o.

Ordered. I just received a Tukra for my eurorack as I have no drums…maybe can use this instead sequenced from my Keystep Pro…need to read the manual.

No resampling, fewer effects… I think the mk2 is the successor.

I wonder what the Tonic EP is going to be. Just the microtonic engine in a physical form? I mean, that would be dope that engine is still super powerful and sounds great.

But maybe they would combine the Speak and Tonic into one? (The speak already features the tonic engine, just all the sounds are on one track and I believe it’s monophonic).

I couldn’t imagine the initial 6 POs each getting their own device.

My guess is it’s going to go Drum Machine (tonic) and then a synth focused one. Three devices would fill out everything you’d want and more.

its a passion project, you’ll see

maybe this time you buy the hardware once and the ‘hybrid’ display is interchangeable depending on some OS / Mode Updates or Plugs from the OP-Z.

I like TE but I don’t trust them to do something like that lol.

That would be awesome though

You know something?

it has been a project within TE to focus on internal resources and I think some can somehow see that designwise, the package alone looks like G.O.A.T. from Taschen Books

btw its a limited edition packaging regarding TE lets see when they’re out of stock on their website

Based 100% on your statement I bought one. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Looks awesome, I may hang on for the tonic/speech/synplant version please though! Nice new and more flexible form factor for things to come!

Resampling would be dope considering there’s one fx at a time.

I got this correctly from the manual? 1fx send for all the groups to send to. So you need to decide between delay and reverb or others.

Well, my brother ordered a K.O. II today. Then we ordered one for our dad. I guess it’s only a matter of time before I grab one too. It just looks like ridiculous amounts of fun.

Would be cool as mentioned above to see some SonicCharge versions, and I would love to see “Ultimate Megaman”

Same here! I gifted a PO-128 to my brother last year and he loved it. We are both huge Megaman fans. Maybe it was a one time collab between TE and Capcom but fingers crossed for another version in this format :crossed_fingers:
