New Samples default to Loops - Doing something wrong or by design/setting?

Most of the samples I load on the OT are one shots or long evolving atmospherics that will be playing at their own tempo and neither Loops nor intended to be Timestretched.

Every sample requires me to Edit it to NOT be a Loop.

Am I missing a setting somewhere or misunderstanding something?
I’d prefer the Default to be NOT loop and NOT Timestretch.
Is it possible to set that? I haven’t found anything in the manual, but my search-fu on the manual (and especially that…umm…spartan index on the printed one) has failed me.

I’ve been going through each one by one, but now I’m at a point I want to load a bunch of samples (finally) and dreading the grunt work.

Sorrily not.

You won’t need to edit the samples themselves, but at least the settings of the machine playing it.

Thanks for the response.
I was hoping I was missing something.

Good thing for a rainy Sunday afternoon with a big pot of tea!

Editing machines vs Samples: I get confused in there. You’re right. I keep thinking I need to keep the option for Loops (using the Auto setting), but the reality is that I don’t do any of the things that require loops anymore. Thanks for the reminder.

Too many things to keep in my head. Sorry. I forget too many things.

note: I used to use Single Cycle Waveforms, which was fun, an super chewy, but not really a resilient enough process for what I want to do. Also, I do use loops, but since everything I play is Pyramid>BomeBox>OT, then I have control to retrigger. So in defense of my stupidity, I’m already wired for loops…loopily wired?

There is still hope that we can get at least a config option for the (flex/static) machine defaults. It’s really annoying to turn timestretch off every time.

With each new beta test I’ll try to request the timestretch off option …

I’ve found the OT and Timestretch is unreconcilably poor when the OT is being a Clock Slave, so TIMESTRETCH ALWAYS OFF is one of the things I curse daily.

I have a template part in the last bank in every project (actually I have several templates for different use cases). Just copy/paste, happy. :upside_down_face:

Did you know you can hold [src]+[copy/paste] to quickly copy the settings page?

I set one track and then I have the rest done in a second or two.

@Schnork makes a good point about template projects. They work for a lot of people.

BINGO!

That’s it!
Woo.
Awesome - thank you!

Wait…what’s [src]?

it’s the button under the screen adjacent to track 4, it might be labeled differently on the mk1

SCR is Playback on mk1.

Yes. Sorry. Mk1. LOL

I can use the [Effect1|Ctrl1] button which shows up under the [ATTR] section on the screen and [Copy].

Awesome tip, THANK YOU

Playback/SRC, Amp, LFO, Effect1 and Effect2 (and also Note, Arp, LFO, CTRL1, CTRL2 on midi tracks) can all be individually copied/pasted.

Actually, I only have one Project and swap samples in/out via Note Events from MIDI in Slot Mode - OT is a boring slaved rompler with MIDI controlled FX and sequenced externally, but that’s my thing.

It is interesting how everyone finds their own use for the OT. I am using it like I used to use my Tascam 4 Track portastudio. I am actually realized just now it’s been several weeks since I even opened up Ableton despite recording music every day. That’s probably why I have that set up shortcut on quick recall.

I’m just curious how you came to that very specific use case. I wouldn’t even know where to start with using midi to change the samples. Are you using Max or something? This actually sounds really fun the more I think about it.

The newest firmware lets you trigger slices and play samples via midi.

Indeed, there is so much left to explore!

Actually, that’s the reason I’m using it.

I bought my OT something like 5 years ago for a specific project that never happened. A combination of:

  • I’m not bright nor patient enough
  • The OT is BRILLIANT as a solo or Master device, but it needed to be a Slave in my rig because that’s my workflow
  • I’m not bright
  • I’m not patient learning a ‘new’ system when my musical goals are demonstrably different than most other users

Since 1.40 I’ve been able to use it the way I really want to and I’m freakin thrilled.
Now I use CC70 to ‘select patches’ at the beginning of a song…or rather, select the Sample, which gets inserted into Note On Events from my sequencer before it reaches the OT.

It’s a rompler! LOL
Well, way more powerful, but I’m getting to the rest of it.

I’m so happy that it’s not sitting on the shelf anymore.

Me too, that sounds amazing! Am I understanding that you are swapping the sample at the slot level so you are not limited to two lists of 128 samples or sample chains?
