yeah, i understand not giving time tables and i wouldn’t normally even care about knowing about planned updates, but i do wonder if they’re “done”/working on a mk2.
tbh, i don’t expect to see anything until after overbridge…and a level up of the rytm. so a year? jealous of the rytm’s external input stuff! … and i’d be surprised if it doesn’t get closer to machinedrum (and so octatrack) functionality in time.
it seems like the rytm’s sampler/sequencer “limitations” are a matter of time to implement. it has 64 megs of ram, it can load samples (from what i’ve seen, once they are on the flash drive it seems faster than the ot’s cf?), it can manipulate them in real time, it has a delay which is just a kind of sampling. if overbridge doesn’t let you record your MIDI info into the daw it will be kind of silly.
with overbridge part of that development is working on MIDI communications and settings management, some of that is certainly applicable to the octatrack. if none of that r&d shows up in some form in the octatrack that would make me doubtful of future updates because computer software development is a huuuuge time sink/commitment.
so, yeah, it’d great to see the stuff that makes the octatrack unique expanded upon, of the “DPS” i think the “performance” side is very good, the “dynamic” side could use some love, but still think the octatrack is great and unique,
so i wonder if part of it is that they don’t have pressure from competition. all things considered, there are only 2 bugs that i experience, so i don’t feel too motivated either.
otoh, i wonder what percentage of elektron owners are multi-machine owners? likely could just be this forum, but it seems like a high amount? i’m skeptical they’re “done” because i think a big part of the appeal is the long term support. the lack of communication about the octatrack is why i’m going to wait and see with the rytm, even though i think it’ll have more features that i’d want in time.
funny that it seems like they are kinda switching with DSI, who used to be very hands off and i suspect in part the comparisons to elektron support got them to be more involved and interact more! with digital stuff i know there will always be bugs and issues, but they don’t bother me if there is communication.
