New machines for AR (hats)

Hey guys,
I guess I am not the first one to raise this, but - I am Machinedrum and AR owner, and honestly, while I do appreciate the difference in build etc, I was wondering if it would be possible to add more hi hat machines. Lab is interesting, but it is very experimental and fidgety. And it is not news to say AR has the least liked HH/OH machines out there. So what I am trying to suggest is, would it be possible to assign something like HH tracks from MD XO machines to HH/OH CY/CB tracks on Rytm in future updates?
Cheers,
N

You could sample the MD hats into the Rytm while you wait for the possibility of more potential hi hat options

I find it really hard to believe that new machines will be coming after 1.70, and even if they do it will take loooong time, so yeah samples is the answer here if there’s a specific sound you need, btw I really really love the hihat machines layered with samples and then hipassed/bandbassped, you can use your favorite sample with the lower machine’s src volume filling the spectrum in a different place of the sample, these combinations lead to so much variety!

i rock a machinedrum non uw and find that there are plenty of cutting options for hats, esp once you start using the lfo options - rytm is nice for mono synth sounds and sampling vintage drum machines to use the great sequencing options on the elektron, but machinedrum is king for cutting through with hats and whoknowswhatelse

Yes ofc, in trifecta MD-AR-Octatrack I of course sample MD, both into Octa and AR, but I would love to have a machine directly on AR.
But, as other rightfully are pointing out, I doubt there will be anything past 1.7

Don’t forget the noise or pulse through the filter self resonating. Also, turn the amp DOWN and instead control the level with a exponential one shot LFO.

99% of people wanting more hihats on the Analog Rytm never explored the fringes of the parameter ranges …

(Btw., Machinedrum is digital, Analog Rytm is analog, so the introduction of digital MD machines is extremely unlikely …)

Doing that with samples and noise. I am into drum synthesis a lot, having Tempest and that lol. The amp down and one shot exponential lfo can be really snappy and nice.

so … I have AR for a while now and I have kits made of impulses and noise only, I love exploring machines, but honestly I never got to like classic or metallic HH, HH lab doesn’t do it for me either.
I love drum synthesis, as I wrote above, I have Tempest too and got into percussion synthesis long time ago. I am aware of the difference in build, as I wrote above but that can be easily compensated for with a machine that would utilise sine oscillator, noise and particular set of core frequencies together with specialised resonant filter model. Just thought Elektron would address one sore point this machine still has (one of the rare shortcomings over the competition). Also, as much as I love to spend time on sound design, sometimes I wish I had a machine that would sound good from the get go and a few tweaks, like kicks or anything else for that matter.

8 Rytm hihats (well last one is more a snare for me  ), … of course dictated by my taste …

the snare machines actually make nice hihats too with some filter resonance

Loving this. Some 606 -like stuff, some resonant fm-ish stuff, and that last one sounds like Tubbutec 606 with modulated noise, great work. Care to share sysex? (Don’t sweat if it’s a bother).

See actually tried that too, FM snare does some nice gritty stuff (with classic amp-one shot exponential lfo mod)

Thx, those are actually going to be in a sound pack, called “Rytm Curses”

looking forward to it. I am not usually buying packs but would be interested in this. cheers.

previously on elektronauts:

these frequency values were great starting points for experimenting
dont forget LFO can give you an exponential envelope

I have this very page and frequencies for various hat models open and pinned at my other screen:)
I tried most of this, interestingly 606 frequencies dialled in in my opinion do not sound like 606 at all (I have both 606 and Tubbutec modular version), but they do have that weight and cut through mix when set to mentioned frequencies in the HH lab.
Cheers for the post tho:) Oh I am aware of the one shot exponential envelope in the lfo section, I do that all the time

nerd mode ot

If you take a closer look at the schematics of the 606 it’s obvious you can’t emulate the signal path/sound easily. There’s a couple of (bandpass) filters with different ranges shaping the oscillators individually. This might be the more essential part of the very distinct sound I suspect.

LFO can give you FM too, it can help for more metallic/experimental sounds

Yeah gave up trying, sampling tubbutec 606 into it. And yeah I know what you mean about filters on hats.
