Casio shows prototype of their new sampler at Namm.
Specs so far:
16 voices, 16 samples, 19 banks, sequencer, effects, 64GB memory, internal mic, audio in, usb-c…
omg it’s happening, and casio is going to be the first one to put out the non traker hand held
akai is going to wish they had done it first
No need for a lighter when you can make FIRE BEATZZ ![]()
I’m having a heard time picturing the scale. Gameboy size?
I think there’s a hand in the right picture.
Picture holding it here: Casio SAMPLER: Future Retro Handheld Beat Maker - Is This the SK-1 Reborn? - gearnews.com
It’s a shame it takes batteries and doesn’t just have a built in one - but I gather this adds additional complexity for shipping, regulatory approval etc etc.
But at least it’s only 4 batteries. 2 hours isn’t amazing though and I’d assume that’s optimistic (as it normally is).
Couldn’t see anything in the articles but I wonder if it can take instrument level/has a preamp? Probably not as that’s starting to get greedy but that’s a great feature of the lofi12 and 404 etc - they’re obviously not the best preamps in the world but they are very useful to have.
You don’t like AA battery ?
I really like that, and now with eneloop AA you have plenty of time and they are super durable.
I would really like to like internal battery but there size and shape and lack of standard make me hate them.
I can see pros and cons - but with internal batteries it’s just something that’s easy to forget about. Plug the device in, it charges and runs from the mains - grab it and go. You don’t have to deal with battery door flaps, swapping batteries in/out and seperate chargers etc. AA’s are also often heavier than modern internal batteries.
But it’s a minor grumble - I’d rather it can run on AA’s than not have a battery powered option at all. And thinking (very) long term they’re easier to replace etc.
I think this looks super cool!
Hopefully its at a good price, I’d love to see Casio doing more outside of the home keyboard market.
OMG, it’s a giant hand.
I’ve been holding, in my hands, the BlackBox and P-6 and others for quite some time now.
Is it stereo? I hope it is
A bit hard to estimate the size of it based on that photo but is this basically Casio’s take on the Pocket Operator?
I think it’s bigger and chunkier than a pocket operator. Expected to weigh 315g. I think a PO weighs about -5g ![]()
Right - it also has just one of those batteries, so naturally this one must be bigger.
I kinda dig it. Looking quirky. Curious what it does, and what “creative limitations” it has.
