I bought a oto boum but cant get it to work with ableton.
The routing is 3/4 output from my interface to the input of boum and 5/6 input interface to output of boum.
Now in ableton i create a external device rack on my master channel and audio to 3/4 and from 5/6.
But i get no signal from 5/6 i tried everything even used the input from my other synths to make sure it is correctly setup in my interface but no luck…
if you mean the input/output config yes of course otherwise I can’t choose the channels in the effects audio plugin.
I have a prism sound titan that is connected via adat to rme raydat my guess is there is something not routed correctly but I can’t figure out what. I will post some screenshots later maybe someone can solve this…
connected my nord lead synth directly to the boum and out to my monitors was good after that coennected the output 7/8 of my interface which is usually for loopback so i know for a fact sound is coming out the outputs. I can see movement on the Audio to meters but no mevement from the audio from meters. So somehow audio is going to the boum but nothing is coming back…
input/output 7/8 are for loopback and im using my Titan as a A/D converter…
the problem seems to be that i cant get sound from any output other than 1/2 which is my main output for the monitors. The titan mixer is very confusing so i cant figure out how to route my sound to any other output other than 1/2…
output/input 7/8 is loopback and it is working. I kind of understand the mixer a little and could even feed the boum when I use out 3/4 on my interface into the boum I can see the meters moving on the boum but I have to set audio to : 1/2 in ableton external device plugion in order to get sound into the boum not 3/4 but when I mute 3/4 in my interface mixer the boum doesnt get any signal:
So I think in the mixer on AO 3/4 when pull the ADAT 1 fader up this ouptput is getting signal from Adat 1 which is my main out. So far so good BUT why do I have to choose 1/2 still on external device plugin and why dont I get no return signal from the boum…im getting crazy here
usually these are virtual channels and don’t correspond with the physical i/o numbers, so if you have the loopback on 7/8 that probably means that input/output marked 7/8 on interface could be on a different channel like 5/6 or 9/10.
bring up all the faders up, make sure everything unmuted, try sending audio from Ableton without cables just the External Audio Effect or with simple track routing into the channels and look on the software for signal, if everything works from the audio interface perspective you should see the levels on the mixer app, once you get there you can connect your cables accordingly and route the boum, if you don’t see the meters working on the mixer app the audio does not reach there so it could be either the interfaces setup or incorrect ableton Audio/Midi settings.
try working out seeing levels on the mixer app before connecting any cables
now my boum is connected to output 5/6 of my interface and is getting signal i connected my headphones diredctly to the output of boum and if I dont use anything on the chanell its seems to work fine on my headphones but as soon as I load a external plugin audio and choose audio to 5/6 and from 2/3 I got very bad loopback feedback so there is definitly some routing issues i cant figure out…
thanks but this wasnt it now when i send audio to 1/2 it seems to get signal and no feedback BUT I cant get the signal back into ableton.
Its like this now audio out of 1/2 to input boum and audio in 2/3 on my interface.
Connecting directly my headphones to the output of boum it seems to work fine but i also hear the clean audio on my monitors. So it seems the signal is doubled comig out of the speakers and getiing routed to the boum but not getting back. It doesnt matter if external device is active or not the boum is getting signal all the time.
How do I get the headphone signal into ableton ??!
now the boum is getting signal all the time except when I turn on external audio device and choose audio to 5/6 everything gets muted even my main monitors but back to 1/2 boum is getting signal but ALSO my monitors.
So the boum is getting directly fed from the interface as soon as i mute 5/6 no audio on boum but on my speakers…
this is your return, you need to set it accordingly to the Inputs on your audio interface where the BOUM outs going > audio interface IN
if you hear the boum audio with this set as No Input that means you’re either hearing direct monitoring or you connected to monitors directly, so you need to take a pair of inputs in your audio interface and set the Audio From to match that input, this is where the incoming audio should be.
you can also see that the External Effect does not receive audio back, the meter after the device is not showing audio like on the left side, that means whatever you’re hearing is not from the external effect but from the interface monitoring or directly from the monitors
this is an example of how I setup the External Audio Effect:
audio goes from my interface 3/4 OUT to Digitone > Rytm and comes back from Rytm to Line inputs 3/4 (which are marked 5/6 on the interface because the loopback tracks shifting everything by 2)
could be inputs muted in total mix, the adat interface, bad cables? anything, if you don’t see the audio coming in then something is disconnected or misconfigured, you should see signals on the audio interface software, also are you sure you enabled all the inputs on the Audio/Midi?
because on my ULmk5 the ADATs are disabled, you might be missing something there too
by the way, I think you’d be easier to debug the inputs if you just use a synth, send your synths sound into the interface instead of trying figure out send/return, you’ll have a constant signal going in, would be easier
turn on everything in the Audio/Midi, I suspect that the only ones enabled at the moment are your physical i/o not the adat channels, while the signal goes to adat it seems.
after turning on the reset of the tracks go back to the External Effect and see if you get the signal elsewhere
