Need help with 'Plays free' mode

Greetings Elektronauts!

I’m in need of some help with the ‘plays free’ mode on track settings.

I’d like T1 and T5 to play some long backing (static) tracks and it would appear plays free mode would be ideal, so I can start/stop them in time using the trig keys.

I have it set up as follows:

starts silent: auto
plays free: x
oneshot track: x
trig mode: one2
trig quant: 4/16

The trouble is I’m just getting silence, I can see the track gets triggered and stops when I press it but not getting any sound coming out?!

Anyone got any tips for this? I’d love to get it working…

You need to put at least a trig,
The sequencer will not start the track, only the corresponding 1-8 key.

This troubled me too the first time I used PlaysFree

Yeah I think your track gets going but it doesn’t have a trig on it. I don’t know if that’s the best way to trig long backing tracks however, maybe better would be to just trigger the machine and not worry about trigs and if tracks are running or not.

[TRIG] keys 1…8 will start the appropriate track playing, so there need to be trigs set on the tracks for you to hear anything.

[TRIG] keys 9…16 will start the machines on tracks 1…8 respectively playing, so I think you should hear samples playing even if there are no trigs on the tracks.

Hi Molotov,

I use backing tracks on my OT for gigs. Typically, I’d start the OT playing some other flex loops first and then arm the trig for my backing track when I’m ready to start the backing track - this way it’s all in sync

select the samples in flex or static machine when trigs are in SLOT mode so you can use each track as a channel to play a full song, the only thing missing is the BPM. I used it this way to play song after song as a DJ so I can start with a song and when is ending…I trig another sample in other track having the trigs in SLOT Mode, and low the volume of the song before when is ending. but…I change the bpm at the moment which is kind of sketchy unless you have all samples/songs in same BPM.
