Need help with OT midi sequencing

Hello there!

I hope that someone can help me because I couldn’t solve some problems.

My goal is to sequence the Korg Volca Beats and Mode Machines ADX-1 with the OT, by mixing and matching individual sounds.

This is my reference from Voltage Labs by Thomann:

I saw lots of tutorials to set up correctly the OT, and I couldn’t get any sound out of the beats (midi ch 10) and adx-1 (midi ch 1).

Korg Volca Beats setup:

Adx-1 setup:

  • Midi CH 1
  • Metal: “open” D#2 (51) // “closed” G#1 (44)*

HiHat: “open” A#1 (46) // "closed F#1 (42)*

Snare: “open” D#1 (38) // “closed” C#1 (37)*

Synth: F1 (41)

Bass: C1 (36)

Settings in OT:

  • Control midi seq: CC direct connect ON
  • Audio CC in: ON
  • Audio CC out: int + ext
  • Audio note in: Standard
  • Audio note out: int
  • Transpose: send
  • Clock: send
  • Midi channels: Auto ch 10
  • Midi channels: Trig ch 1-8

So this is the situation — then to make a test first with the ADX-1, I’ve assigned every track to the corresponding note — I placed some tricks on the kick, and then no sound was coming out.

What am I missing? Can any of you help me?

Make sure your chosen OT midi track is sending midi on the right channel. Playback page 2, select midi channel and push the encoder.

If you dont push the encoder… you’ll get nada.

I’ve set it, it’s in the midi note setup page (double tap on SRC) right?

On the adx-1 it doesn’t trigger any sound

Where is the audio from your drum machine going?

Personally I set control midi seq CC direct to OFF
Audio CC OFF
AUDIO CC int
Audio note in OFF
Audio Note out OFF

If you have selected the midi channel for the OT midi track correctly, it should be sending midi out.

Is the drum machine set to recieve midi notes?

Is the note number correct? Eg the note that corresponds to eg bass drum? Get that working then you can extrapolate from there.

The audio is going to my audio interface, but now I created 2 thru tracks (T1 / T2) to hear everything from the OT.

I’ve changed the settings like you’ve told me, but nothing changed.

Just to be sure I’m not wrong I hooked up the drum machine to a midi keyboard with the right channels and playing the keys triggered the sounds.

drum machine is set to channel 1 according to manual:

Midi cable is going from OT out to Adx-1 in

Can you trigger drum machine sounds from the OT midi keyboard?

If not check to see if any midi channels are muted or solo’ed.

Does the drum machine respond to velocity?
What is the minimum velocity needed to trigger a voice?
Are any midi LFOs active.
Are any Midi track CC parameters active?
Is the midi arp on? (Turn it off)

I dont know that drum machine, so just using my OT knowledge.

I’ve tried triggering the sounds using the ot midi kb - it didn’t trigger any sound - maybe there is the problem?

Every channel is active, there is no specification on the manual on how the velocity interacts with sounds.

lfos, cc parameters and arp are all turned off.

Do you have any other midi gear you can check the OT with?

Just trying to exhaust possibilities now.
Hope you figure it out soon.

So I feel a bit stupid but the whole time the OT midi out was connected to the thru port on the drum machine.

That being said I’ve tried the keyboard again and it worked triggering the sounds.

So I’ve tried to sequence something random by playing the ot’s kb and although there some triggers on the sequence no sound where triggered on the drum machine.

I’ve checked the triggers and they’ve corresponded to the fixed notes.

@Microtribe somehow I’ve managed to set everything up! Thank you a lot for the help and patience. Now I will try with the volca beats :joy:

The OT is so damn powerful.
