Need assistance with MS

I’m really trying to grasp the model samples but i’m struggling. I have been working with the box for 3 days and have not figured out much. The manual is not much help since it does not explain things very clearly. I have tried watching the few youtube videos that are available but they seem to skip over the basic beginning steps. One of the first things I did was to upload my samples in custom folders but I cannot figure out how to find my folders, I have yet to even figure out how to make a drum beat nor can i bring up my custom folders. I’m sorry for what may seem very basic to you guys but anyway could you give me to tips/tricks/advice just to get me going with this box please? I send my gratitude ahead of time, so thank you in advance.

No worries, if it’s your first dip into elektron it’ll take a bit of getting used to.

Try these videos, they’re both really good places to start.

If you’re still struggling, maybe write down a list of the things you want to achieve and we can go through it one by one.

When I first had to figure out an elektron device, the video I used was the first one @Fin25 just linked, the one from cuckoo. If you work your way through that you should be well under way.

I am only going off of the information in the first video, but it sounds like you need a direct answer.

To get to your samples:

  • select the track you want to add a sample to.
  • press the samples button with vertical lines (in between the screen and the top gray encoder).
  • press the back button with the half-rotated arrow several times until the top of the screen says pool. cuckoo says that “pool” is the topmost level of the file browser.
  • inside of pool, scroll with the orange encoder until you see the file that you uploaded containing your personal samples.
  • push down on the orange encoder to enter your folder.
  • scroll through samples and preview using your selected track pad.
  • when you find the sample you’d like to load to the track, press the orange encoder again and it will be loaded to your selected track.

Hopefully you can use this to figure out some of the other questions. Good luck.

Yep, off the top of my head I’m pretty sure it’s samples button, back three times, rotate the red knob clockwise one click and you’re at the top level of the uploaded samples.

Ironically I really found elektron boxes rather straight forward with the manual open, unlike Roland, where I need the manual next to me every time I want to do anything xD

Others have already posted good videos, but if you have specific questions (how to X, what does y…) feel free to post them.

Here’s a quick one in terms of navigating to your own content on the device:

  1. Long-press the [BACK] button to return to the top level within the SAMPLE ASSIGN menu.

  2. The folders are arranged alphabetically, so prefix your root content folder with a symbol (e.g. # User) to keep it at the top of the list.

  3. Now when you long-press [BACK] within this menu, you’ll see your content folder.

Unfortunately, I’ve never played with an MS before, but I watched that part of the video and just took dictation so hopefully I was not too vague with my bullet points!

The M:S is an amazing workstation. The two YouTube tutorials mentioned earlier are very complete and will kickstart your workflow. Te be honest; what helped me the most learning the machine was just turning the knobs and go crazy on every setting. See (hear) what it does and how it affects your sound. Bought it two months ago and immediately felt in love with it
