MyVolts step-up power tips

https://myvolts.com/StepUpPower

Looks like myvolts has released a new line of power accessories that they say are much more powerful than their old cables.

I had previously asked them if a rip cord could power a syntakt, and I got mixed answers from their website before they eventually said it couldn’t. Now they claim their new power tip can power an A4.

Seems like a nice new solution for people on the go. I might check one out for my syntakt, though I suspect I’ll need a larger battery. 20 bucks usd is reasonable.

These look neat! Tiny USB-C PD adapters.

I use the BirdCords ones. USB PD (power delivery) is way better for this because it is designed to safely supply way more power, up to 100W+.

These kind of USB-C PD adapters are passive as it’s the power supply doing the voltage conversion. You can get the same since years for 10 times less:

I’ve been using these to power my ST/DN/DT, no issues. I even have a 20V that power a 80w projector.

You should put the price in a quality power supply when using any of these adapters though.

Thanks for the tip! If it’s that simple, maybe I’ll check those out instead.

I’ve never really liked aliexpress, and the cheapest on amazon (not substantially better) are $10. That’s still cheaper, but myvolts has a bogo code right now. Might still get myvolts plugs at the discounted rate.

I worry about using cheapo USB-C widgets with expensive gear, in case they don’t have proper voltage control or whatever. BirdCords are only €20 each, and they’ve been flawless for me.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering why those MyVolts adapters were so expensive since it’s clearly the powerbank/adapter which is doing the work.
Same pricing gap with the cables with embedded metering.

I’ve been using the old myvolts with my octatrack forever, seems fine.

But the new one seems more convenient.

I worry about the active components (ie the power supply here), the adapters are passive, you could build your own for about the same price with off the shelf pieces (~2$). BirdCords/MyVolts comes from the same Chinese factories FWIW. What you’re paying for is mostly marketing, storage and distribution with a premium.
