My favourite synth pron movie

Just listen to this thing and to this guy virtually having an orgasm talking about it. It’s awesome.

sem x 8 unison sounds amazing!

Thanks, interesting video.

Owned a single SEM in the mid 90’s, bought it for £300 and sold it for £500 a few years later.

Deep regret ever since.

There is absolutely nothing like that continuously variable, multi-mode filter: usually ran other synths, drum machines and sampler or even FX send from mixer into it. Made everything it touched sound beautiful.

I use Doepfer’s clone and a DI for that. Never heard an original in the wild, but it seems to be one of my favorite filters!

Thanks for the heads up @husc

Hadn’t considered the Doepfer as an option.
Hmm…

The SEM filter is definitely where it’s at, the oscillators while nice (in a 2/4/8 voice configuration) are nothing exceptional other than the vernier dials.

Another drawback/benefit: This would lead me into Eurocrack territory.

Can we made a synth-documentary recommendations thread? That’s a must see:

Newcleus FTW :sunglasses: oh yeah and Black Dog! … But I think that Portishead track uses the SH101 ?

Oberheim is still making the SEMs with improvements… at a price :frowning:

Yes they used the 101 a few times. But they have a ton of pretty awesome and rare synths! Check out this one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X614aeTzq7k

Sh-101under the table at sec. 06. Also a real arp 2600 and lots of other great stuff

New video with Dave Spiers on the 8 voice again. Make sure you watch right to the end!
