If you’re referring to using 2 class compliant elektron boxes such as the Digitakt OG or II/Digitone/Syntakt and accessing their respective digital outputs separately on your iPad Pro in AUM using an USB connection, it’s not possible.
I discuss this in my original video linked at the top of this forum thread, specifically in “CHAPTER 4” in section “4.1 The Digitakt & Digitone Audio Routing” at 1:06:24. The subject I believe you’re looking for is covered there.
Also specifically at 1:12:44 I address the completely understandable issue of not being able to do what you’re hoping for, and I provide an alternate solution to work around this for people who feel like they absolutely need this flexibility, which involves the inclusion of another dedicated fully featured Class compliant USB audio interface.
I hope this answers your question! I have to say though, as I eventually mention in the video, with my current experience with this setup, involving a dedicated audio interface is unnecessary in practice, however if you need more connectivity if you have other hardware that you also wish to involve, you won’t be able to dodge having to invest in a dedicated Class Compliant USB audio interface. If you have the resources I recommend looking at the RME Fireface UCX II as a VERY solid investment.
An impromptu easy listening 123 BPM House jam session, showcasing the awesome crunch of Fabfilter’s Saturn 2 gentle transformer! Enjoy
Oh and also it is with enormous joy that I announce that Sugar Bytes has changed DrumComputer’s audio mutes to trigger (MIDI) mutes following my feedback!
The pre-existing “Prb” functionality (aka trigger conditions) has also been fixed to remain consistant, even though the functionality has unfortunately not been expanded.
Anyhow, here’s the video:
Description:
A raw easy listening house 123 BPM performance with no post processing showcasing Saturn 2’s awesome gentle transformer (by Fabfilter). The performance also features Omega (an FM synthesizer by Bleass) and Koshiba (by iceGear/iceWorks). Shaper 2 (by K-Devices) is also consistently used, almost on everything. I also demonstrate using Volcano 3 (by Fabfilter). The session features my custom iPad Pro based music production setup including the Elektron Digitakt & Digitone showcasing a unique workflow based on AUM and the extensive use of an iPhone remote control based on Surface Builder.
If you’re curious about hearing this session at a -10 LUFS loudness (instead of YT’s enforced -14 LUFS) I made an edit which is downloadable as an MP3 (11MB) via my Dropbox at the link available in the YT video description directly.
Lastly, if you enjoy the video please be sure to give it a like on YouTube directly, as it really helps to increase my exposure. Thanks!
My first iOS AUv3 plugin video review! I chose Shaper 2 by K-Devices because it’s what I use permanently on my Digitakt + Digitone track going into the iPad Pro. It’s an awesome processor and I chose it purely based on its merit. Enjoy!
Description:
This is an in-depth video review of the awesome Shaper 2 AUv3 audio processor plugin (by K-Devices). I extensively test the behaviour of the plugin with carefully pre-selected audio source material. The video includes sections (AKA chapters) to facilitate convenient navigation through the different source material used throughout the review.
If you’ve got extremely limited time and are into sound design I recommend looking at:
The “pseudo granulator” sound effect I’m getting at 17:40 with OB-Xd 3
The Digitone “Rumbler” sound test I did at 34:29
As I thought these were pretty cool and rather unique
Other than that as always, if you enjoy the video please be sure to give it a like on YouTube directly, as it really helps to increase my new channel’s exposure, it’s quite rough to get some visibility out there. Thanks & cheers!
My review of Ruismaker Noir! It’s an ultra lightweight monophonic percussion synthesizer available on iOS. Very importantly, it is compatible with Elektron sequencers parameter locking functionality and so I found it to be extremely useful. Here is the video:

A talk where I discuss my perspective on the future of iOS as a platform for music production, and my perspective on the current issues of the platform:
Title:
Real Talk & Chill #1: The future of music production on iOS and the platform’s issues
Description:
A laid back talk about the future of iOS as a platform for music production and my take on explaining (at least in part!) what makes it so difficult for the platform to really take off when it comes to music production specifically. The video includes sections (AKA chapters) to facilitate convenient navigation throughout the main topics discussed throughout the video.
Thank you for your great videos! Your setup is very similar to mine at the moment and I feel inspired to do more with it and follow my old roots. I personally find the possibilities that can be achieved in combination with iOS instruments and effects quite potent. I still have a lot to try out to find a workflow that works for me, but I believe that with the right understanding and interest in the subject matter, one can achieve professional results. Of course, that doesn’t make the DAW superfluous - but the way to live out and discover your creativity is different. And that’s a good thing and fills me with deep joy. I will definitely be watching your other videos and I hope you never lose your passion for making music!
Thanks for the enthusiasm and for your appreciation! As I discuss in the first video I ever released on my channel titled “The Meta of Electronic Music Production in 2024 (with iPad Pro/AUM/Digitakt & Digitone)”, I’ve come to the understanding that the “problem” that led so many of us to want to break away from the typical DAW setup approach has never been interacting with the concept/idea of a DAW in itself (in a theoretical sense). What I’m trying to suggest here is that a DAW concept could absolutely be at the center of a no compromise setup that actually encourages us to “live out and discover our creativity”.
The problem comes from the user interface that the overwhelming amount of users who are interested in interacting with a DAW have to “endure” whether it’s on the software front or on the hardware front (which for a PC typically implies a large screen viewed at a distance, a mouse and keyboard).
I completely agree that we’re waaaay past the point where professional results are achievable on iOS, however I don’t think that the challenges we might be facing regarding finding a workflow that’s ideal for us is so much something that has to do with us specifically nearly as much as the sheer difficulty of identifying the right tools due to the extreme volume of unusable junk that’s out there, and in addition to this there’s simply the fact that a “perfect” augmented version of AUM doesn’t exist yet!
As a result the difficulty to put a setup together where serious dedicated users can really reach an ideal state becomes exponentially more complicated to achieve, and that’s where Elektron boxes come in to massively alleviate the difficulty of achieving that ideal level of comfort! I could go on but I’m already starting to spoil the subject of what I’m working on so I’ll stop there haha! Cheers!
Another talk where I discuss my understanding of the potential of the iPad Pro’s touch screen technology (and all ultra low latency touch screen tech that would potentially become available in the electronic music production realm really) to revolutionize electronic music production on a large scale, in tandem with key hardware devices such as the Digitakt:
Title:
Real Talk & Chill #2: The iPad Pro’s touch screen potential to revolutionize electronic music production
Description:
A laid back talk about the iPad Pro’s potential to transcend a technological paradigm in electronic music production. The talk extends to the general subject of the implications of having access to ultra low latency touch screen technology in the context of electronic music production. The video includes sections (AKA chapters) to facilitate convenient navigation throughout the main topics discussed throughout the video.
Hopefully there’s something in the video that’ll be interesting to think about. If you enjoy the video please give it a like on YT directly, thanks!

Raw experimental ambient electronic music session featuring the Elektron Digitakt & Digitone 2 as a part of my custom iPad Pro based music making setup. The Waldorf Microwave 1 and Quanta 2 are also other key instruments used in this session.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the large volume disparity between my voice and the loudness of the kick sounds that can be heard in the video, YouTube chose to enable the “Stable Volume” option by default for my video. I HIGHLY recommend DISABLING this option by clicking on the “cog” icon and flicking the “Stable Volume” option off. As you will see in the second video, the problem does not occur but there’s nothing I can do to set the option OFF by default for people. It’s the first time I realize/discover that this option even exists…
Description:
This is the first of many sound design videos to come entirely dedicated to making sounds on the Elektron Digitone 2. This session represents an introduction to my sound design process and it’s dedicated to making kick drum percussion sounds in particular. As always this process takes place as part of my iPad Pro based setup which allows me to add very useful processing to my Digitone 2 audio signal, and this helps me greatly to design sounds efficiently/optimally that really shine when processed.
Great opener of your new series about the Digitone II, looking forward to your next ones!
BTW: Did you recognize the news about Battalion for iOS? It‘s nearly out, I‘m really excited! Have a look here:
OMG! Thanks for sharing the news I had no idea! I kind of had a sense that they were going to aim for a release by the typical Black Friday deadline though On another subject I’ve established contact with Waldorf to get some very needed fixes on the Microwave 1 front for iOS… Between Quanta 2 and Microwave 1 my hands are quite full at the moment in terms of sound design & exploration, as evidenced by my last “energized experimental” session video!.. In parallel to this I’m prioritizing the Digitone 2 of course, and so with its FM Drum engine and all the bells & whistles I’m not as involved in the prospect of Battalion as a potential game changer, even though I will for sure get it when it comes out. I’m definitely crossing fingers for a polished Battalion iOS release though! (a guy can dream)
Percussion Sound Design with Digitone 2 (using FM drum engine & comb filters)
Description:
In this sound design session I explore the theme of using the Digitone 2 FM Drum engine in combination with either of the new 2 Comb Filters added to the Digitone 2 to create interesting and diverse percussion sounds that aim at conveying a sense of realism while still sounding noticeably electronic. This session is an introduction to my sounds design process.
NEW AUV3 integration jam showcase (with Digitone 2 & Digitakt & iPad Pro)
Description:
In this “historical” video, I take my new iPad Pro based custom music making setup for a spin, featuring a whopping total of 32 instrument tracks available directly between my Digitone 2 and Digitakt. Now that I’ve finally completed a first solid iteration of this extremely complex integration (mapping) process between AUV3 plugins on my iPad in AUM and a total of 13 MIDI tracks split between my Digitakt and Digitone 2, I’m getting acquainted with my new setup, which is a challenging but very rewarding process.
Description:
In this mini experimental groove session I explore the sonic territories of Hilda synthesizer (by Bram Bos) in particular (5 separate instances are used in the video). As usual the video also features my custom iPad Pro based music production setup using AUM and includes the Elektron Digitone 2 & Digitakt, as well as my custom iPhone remote control. Other key instruments I use in the sessions include Ruismaker Noir, Waldorf MicroWAVE 1 and DiscoDSP OB-Xd 3.
Very, very nice tunes! I really enjoy listening to it. It’s never fair to make comparisons with music because it usually comes from each individual in their own way - but your music in this clip reminds me of a time in the late nineties when techno wasn’t IDM and sounded too futuristic to be called ambient. Really nice, thanks for your ideas and the beautiful flow!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! My main “area of comfort” is deep house, but with what I’ve been doing these last few months I specifically want to explore experimental/effervescent/energized/ambient stuff in a conscious effort to break away from the 4 on the floor kick paradigm and to discover new sonic grounds… It’s one of the main subjects of exploration that I’ve been envisioning as a long term goal ever since I started this whole iPad custom music setup journey.
From my perspective, I’m pretty much organically attempting to define new genres for my own use in this process. I don’t have a clear frame of reference (or recipe) that I rely on for this, aside from just being in the spirit of creating music that sounds deep and invites an introspective/contemplative feeling… I can’t think of a single artist that I’ve had in mind as I create this stuff. I’m just cultivating my own vibe, and honestly it’s so liberating to explore electronic music without necessarily aiming for it to be dance floor oriented… Cheers!

Exploring new sonic grounds… In this session I continue to investigate further with Hilda synthesizer (by Bram Bos) in particular. As usual the video features my custom iPad Pro based music production setup including the Elektron Digitone 2 & Digitakt, as well as my custom iPhone remote control.
