Muting the Slice/Hit of a Loop...possible?

Hi! Sometimes working with loops on the OctaTrack I only like a specific part of the loop…(i.e. the first 4 bars) or sometimes I like the whole thing except for a single hit that I’d like to cut, adding silence on that hit and keeping the loop as it sounds for the rest of the groove.

What is the fastest way to do that without having to manually edit the file in the edit section? (With the silence selection option)

For me the best way would be to create slices and to mute only the slice/hit I don’t like. But if I use slices to take advantage of this fast as hell automatic hit detection process then I have to play the loop as a sequence of slices.

I just want to play it as a loop without that hit. Am I dreaming?

trigless trig with volume automation?

If you have it already sliced, why not just leave the slice out by not putting a trig in?

Plock amp vol -64. Remove plock (unmute) by holding the trig and click the amp vol knob.

Yes, 2 trigless on VOL, -63, then 0.

Done for good if you use the sample oftenly.
Eventually make a copy.

Much better mangling results with a sequence of slices (linear locks).
Remove the trig as mentioned, or plock another slice (my favorite solution, if possible).
Eventually resample.

Sorry guys, I’m new to the OctaTrack and I still don’t know exactly how to work with slices.

“trigless trig with volume automation?”…

Ok I know how to do that if I’m using a sample in Grid Recording Mode, just hold the trig and change the parameter on that trig. And I know how to use Slices from a Loop in Live Recording Mode manually trigging the slices, but it’s me playing, it’s not the loop.

If I put one trig just to play the loop, it doesn’t care of the slices settings. If i create slices I have to play every single slice in sequence to recreate the structure of the loop without that single hit, but I know how to do that only in Live Recording Mode, not in Grid Mode.

I don’t understand how to play the loop using the sequence of slices. It’d be the easiest way to me.

Trigless method
Take a 1 bar loop like Amen Break.
Trig 1 on step 1.
To silent/remove the 2nd snare, add a trigless lock on step 13 (hold func and a trig), plock AMP VOL to - 63.
Add another trigless lock on step 14 or 15 and plock it to VOL 0 to bring back VOL normally.

Slice method
Same loop.
Place 16 trigs.
Audio Editor :
Slices > Menu > Create Slide Grid > 16 slices (no zero crosses)
Create linear locks > Yes

Now all your slices are plocked with the right slices numbers. Remove Slice 13 on trig 13.

If your original sample if 4 bars, slice it in 64, apply the same procedure as above in oder to use 1 bar.
I usually slice a 1 bar loop in 8.

It is possible to create a slice grid in a portion of a sample : Select bar 1 with TRIM, go to Slices > Create Slice Grid. The grid is applied to the selection.

Thanks! Trigless method is easy and it works. But I find more interesting to have all the slices down on the triggers.

I’ve created a grid of 64 slices in the AED and looking at the Audio Editor Playback I see that 64 slices cover the entire lenght of the loop from start to end. I’ve created the linear locks and I’ve also checked that every trigger is assigned to each slice in sequence 1 to 64.

So I have 64 slices assigned on 64 trigs (4 pages pattern). The problem is that if I start playback I hear glitches between each slice and the loop sound different from the original.

Maybe because the loop is time-stretched?

Ideally you have to use the orginal Bpm of the file, and disable timestretch.

Timestretch don’t work under a certain slice length.

Ok I got it!

Anyway I can internally resample the time-stretched loop and then do the entire slicing process.

Thanks
