Hey!
I would like to use the mute mode to mute seperate tracks while external notes are incoming. I implement the rytm to an eurorack system, so CC94-sends are NO solution. Can anyone tell me how to set up the Rytm to make the mute mode WORK as it should? Actually, the RYTM ignores the active mute states that are selected in mute mode if external MIDI trigger are coming in. Please try not to answer like ‘it’s supposed to be this way’ or stuff like that…ignoring the mute states is simply not useful in the current state, no matter what situation. And it comes as a big surprise while exploring the machine, so this simply can’t be ‘supposed to be that way’.
Is there a chance to configure the Rytm to make track muting work or is this a firmware issue to be solved?
I understand your concern and it would be nice if a solution was implemented…
I have several for you:
If the device’s mute pads muted incoming midi you wouldn’t be able to have a sequence on the track as it would play along with incoming midi then muting would mute both.
Currently the mutes allow you to mute an internal sequence and then send it midi, so you get three options… Internal sequence playing while not sending midi, mute internal sequence and send external midi, internal sequence plus external midi…
One solution is to set up scenes targeting amp volume, probably other solutions as well…
Personally I would not prefer to have it work the way you mention, because I do like I said above and have three sequences for every track. Perhaps a feature request for an option to have mutes mute midi. Or some other possible solutions…
it does - it mutes the sequencer as intended/desirable
if it is, what more is there to say ! You have to work with what you have in front of you, put in a feature request, but I doubt it’ll be implemented as you want
Besides scenes on the device another solution is to use a midi merger or midi box and grab a cheap midi controller with 12 pads, buttons, or faders to control amp vol… I just mute the midi sequence at the source personally…
I once attempted capturing ‘mute automations’ (or whatever you call it) in MIDI clips with ModStep. The AR does send Mute informations (Global > MIDI config > Port config > Mut dest) and, IIRC, can receive them from a sequencer. But it acted kind of quirky, like it worked on the active channel but not on others or something (can’t remember exactly). I thought it was due to ModStep and haven’t investigated further. It might be worth fiddling with the auto-channel/track channel settings and trying with another software sequencer. It it works with a computer there’s maybe a way to make it work with eurorack?
Oh right, so you can conceivably make it so when you mute an internal track it sends a midi cc to the correct external midi device sending a sequence and mutes it. Nice idea!
Totally sounds doable you’d just might need to mess with midi cc remapping probably with another device to make it work, unless the midi sequence sender has cc mapping. The AR mute send cc would need to be mapped to the correct external midi device mute cc, as long as it has one. My Iconnecmidi4+ can do this…
