Mutable Instruments Ambika and Octatrack PC issue

Is anyone here using OT + Ambika and using program changes PC in order to change the Ambika’s multi?

I want the Ot to change it at the beginning of a new song and I’m sending the PC with the first pattern (which is associated with part1).
The following patterns are associated with part2, which sends no PC at all to the Ambika, however every time I change OT’s pattern the Ambika load the same multi again and freezes for a couple of seconds.

Is that a normal behaviour ? At the moment I disabled the PC between the two machines but I would like to fix the problem and automatize the sound s change for every song

Have you deactivated PROG CH SEND in the MIDI SYNC menu? Otherwise the OT will send program changes automatically when it changes to a different pattern.

I didn’t try this way, will test later. Thanks

I don’t get why the Ot behaves like this anyway:

pattern1 uses part1 -> sends the cc

pattern2…n use part2 -> cc disabled

shouldn’t the octa stop sending CC when switching between pattern1 and pattern2? :confounded:

Why are you talking about CCs (control changes) ? Doesn’t the Ambika use program changes (PC) to change sounds?

When you don’t turn off the automatic program changes they get send in addition to what you have configured in a part. So even if the part doesn’t contain a customized program change the automatic one gets still send.

The program change number of the automatic one is determined by the pattern you switch to (A1 -> PC 1, A2 -> PC 2 and so on).

you are right, I confused them.

Got it, I’m going to change them and test how it works. Thanks for the explenation!

I tried what you suggested but I wasn’t able to fix the issue: if I deactivate PC on the sync menu and configure the pattern in order to send a program change on a specific part nothing happens at all…

on the other hand if I leave that setting On the OT keeps sending a program change any time a new pattern is selected

On OT you can set one PC per part, when you change to a pattern that also changes to a different part, the PC of that part is sent.

You dial in the PC number and press Yes to confirm (or press the encoder to confirm). Then it should work.

That feature is especially useful with other Elektrons or music gear with a similar pattern structure.

I think I made it, I still have a minor issue:

  • disabled the PROG CH SEND in the MIDI SYNC menu
  • on the midi track which controls the Ambika → set one cc as cc0 with value of 32 (found this tip on another forum)
  • on the same midi track i set up the program change in order to select the Ambika’s multi I want

now when I select the first pattern of tge song on the OT the Ambika changes sounds as intended, but it keeps reloading the same settings every time the OT’s pattern restarts…
I can deal with it but it’s a bit annoying as the ambika takes 1 second in order to load the sounds so I still have a bit of silence at the beginning of the pattern

It’s not happening anymore, didnt change any setting… now it’s time to check with the users at the mutable instrument’s forum if it could be an issue on the ambika side…
