Okay, last one from me. I once felt Jesus in my heart listening to this, and tears streamed down my face. Drugs might have been a factor, he never returned. But especially the start is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know, and depending on my mood I will still be swept away with tears in my eyes.

There are many tracks which get me, this is a personal and very specific one …
it’s actually a specific section/moment of a very long track which gives me an overwhelming wave of goosebumps and an inescapable solitary but cathartic tear . . it feels like i’ve been manipulated biologically by this musical progression and the intimacy/purity of the voice … you have to invest in the track as a whole and ride the journey to get the payoff imho, it ebbs and flows until you get stretched by all the modulations in time, tone, arrangement and intensity which lead to a tipping point where she glides out of the phrase ‘so long’ at 6 minutes precisely having set the scene to trigger this release over the minute before… it’s laser guided as opposed to a track which sets you off throughout … beautifully recorded too; it’s Steve Albini recording, all analogue fwiw, Van Dyke Parks on string arrangements (Abbey Road) with O’Rourke mixing and a guest vocal (from her then partner Bill Callahan, a hero of mine) … it’s not for everyone, but it’s a special track from a gifted musician with a divine voice
wanted to put Joanna up first because it’s a musical movement which tips me over; the vocal sentiment and music from Kate on this one is more generally affecting (despite the distracting production imho), but vocally she must surely have been an inspiration for Newsom
Thom of course does the whole intense yearning thing to breaking point quite often too …

Eminem - Stan
I don’t even know why, I guess it’s the whole story and the way it’s delivered, which Dido’s singing just amplifies above the certain threshold. Maybe also has something to do with specific ambience, because Dido’s “Thank you” doesn’t have such impact.
Nightwish - Everdream

Original is great, but Floor’s interpretation pushed it into eye watering zone.
Depeche Mode - In my room (album version)
My favorite DM song and this live version from Devotional tour is even better with those ethereal back vocals and raspy Dave’s voice. But I think those visuals are the final “touch”.

I think this one might be just nostalgia, but anyway

That Yo la Tengo! I’m pretty sure I was bubbling slightly to this when I seen them at a festival. They played Sunday night which didn’t help.

Oh boy … I can place myself right back in the cinema hearing this play out in Tarkovsky’s final film a lifetime ago (i only rediscovered the recording relatively recently thanks to the internet), it was a feast for all the senses … this piece of Music is utterly sublime, no religious experience necessary to enjoy this

And - not very original - Claptons Tears in Heaven because that song was played on my brothers funeral (I was two, he almost four when he died) and my parents used to play that song yearly around the date of his death.
Hits especially hard now I am a parent of two myself.
