To all of you who take proper care of your gear, I salute you 🫔

christ sake I saw a digitakt in ā€œexcellentā€ condition with a box for $380 on reverb the other day, this is the biggest hit a lot of people have taken on the resale price of their gear in years if not ever (unless you bought a fucking beat thang brand new or some other kind of unthinkable lack of foresight).

That time RZA made the worst beat ever… : r/wutang (reddit.com)

RZA probably made the most money off beat thang out of anyone involved because I’m sure they had to compensate him for doing the demo. Maybe one of the dudes who made it was his homie or something, but I’d bet he got paid for this.

DT2 is the best thing that ever happened to me.

People went crazy and dumped all kinds of Elektrons for absurd prices, not only DTs…

That fucking hurts

Don’t even get the forum started on the Silver Digitakt.

Don’t do it!

Dont even MENTION it.

Especially not in a happy, joyful meme thread.

Thats the most assured way to dismantle this pleasant energy and risk it turning into a dumpster fire.

And I DON’T want that to happen

you can probably grill a hamburger on the silver syntakt though

Not quite a meme but there is some aspect of madness at play here.

There’s a video of RZA talking about that sampler he was selling. He said something like ā€œthere’s DNA on this thing!ā€ and I think he even believed that would motivate someone to buy it

What? Like blood?

You know, he didn’t specify, but I think blood would be one of the better sources of DNA, if you know what I mean…

I didn’t find the video, but here’s an article quoting him:

ā€œThis is the first SP-1200 that I ever owned,ā€ RZA said of the SP-1200. He confirmed that it was used in the production of a number of classic Wu-Tang releases, too, saying, ā€œThere’s DNA in this.ā€

I do. Thats why I went with blood

Obviously any sp1200 is going to have some value to someone but if you were asked to describe a piece of gear that you can imagine a random crackhead with no shoes on walking into guitar center and trying to sell, it might look about like rza’s $70,000 sp-1200.

It reminds me of an Analog Rytm Mk2 that was on reverb a few years ago. It was all scratched and scribbled with markers, with none of the original finish left. I can’t seem to find it now, but it was floating around the web for a while… The seller had a delusional price for it, but not quite ā€œRZA SP-1200 with DNAā€ delusional

Like if you didn’t know it was rza’s signature, it looks like it just has some random permanent marker scribbling on it, can’t read any of the overlay, looks like it might not turn on. Probably smells like blunts and cigarettes.

Not to mention the DNA allll over the place.

I don’t think I would want to put up with the hassle of working on an SP-1200 these days.

Is there a follow-up to this? Do we know who bought it (maybe Sotheby’s keeps that private)? Did they clone RZA with the DNA? — stick around and find out the answer to at least two of these questions!

Do you know who Bushwick Bill was? That was the clone, he turned out kinda messy but he made it count.

I’m stil hung up on this signature though, he picked such prime real estate to sign it on too. Like, aesthetically, wouldn’t you want to sign the white strip on top or something and keep it looking presentable? My man was like that kid who licks the food so that you won’t eat it. Right across the middle and hella sloppy. All sorts of DNA, front and center.
