It wasn’t even funny, so why argue…

It was easier to pretend I had friends when I had a monomachine and used the voice synth engine. :disappointed_relieved:

It’s not necessarily “wife jokes”. They’re relationship jokes. And often it’s nerdy dudes having to explain their stupid obsession to their wives or whatever kind of partnership they’re living in.

As evidenced by our week long collab :grinning:

In a one income family, one person stays home. In this case it’s the wife. Maybe in a diff situation it’s the husband.

A case of being overly sensitive I think.
Perhaps banning comedy is next?

I didn’t see it as the house wife being a house wife. I saw it as a completely irresponsible partner. Priorities out of wack.
Gear over loved ones.

I may seem overly sensitive.
But it seems to me people are not really aware of what sexism is really.

If people were allowed to make racist jokes here, many would feel uncomfortable and leave the place.
Sexism does the same to me, and most likely every people that liked my reaction.

I am very sorry for people that feel uncomfortable for not being allowed to post sexist jokes.
Anyway, please stop trying to twist it so that it could be acceptable: it is not.

From now on, I’ll just delete sexist posts and in particular wife jokes without any warning.
Because when I tried to gently ask people to drop a sexist meme, the same off topic discussions come again and again, trying to justify bloke’s jokes as being acceptable.

You’re not overly sensitive, some people just don’t get it evidently

I guess it would definitely be not sexist anymore.
But as lame a joke.

Now let’s get back to the topic shall we?

My position is clear: I don’t want this place to be a good old bloke’s place.

I have trouble to understand the resistance to this.

Seems like every or almost every one of these types of jokes reinforces two harmful ideas. The wife is never interested in synths or music production herself, and that she is always the one who has to be appeased or lied to or otherwise circumvented, lest she kill the man’s joy in his hobby.

Seeing her as the “sensible” one is only a surface thing, and doesn’t address the pervasive message in all of these jokes that the wife is always the killjoy in the relationship.

Where are the jokes about the husband being upset about the wife buying new synthesizers or other musical gear? I have yet to see one.
