Music May 2026

had to skip a day, just didnt have time yesterday. lots of school work on my plate, finally got a not great grade on an assignment. been waiting to see what the limits of my cramming are, i think i found them.

my op-z came in the other day and its got a few of the classic situations, battery needed to be kickstarted but thats looking all good now, got some pretty bad double triggers/weak connections so im getting some deoxit to take care of that, and one of the encoders is popping out, so i got some plumbers tape as is suggested but i think i got the wrong kind because there is no adhesive on it? not sure, have to do more than a momentary search. but all those things aside, im liking the op-z. i had one briefly a few years ago, sold it to fund a trip with my then girlfriend. i sold it to the drummer of
Hooray for the Riff Raff, i wonder if it ever made it on a track.

recorded a sequence, a little live noodle and a bass from the op-z onto the mpc sample, then ran it through the 404 as we do

this was way chiller than your usual stuff. dig it tho, great vibe.

thank you, yeah these chill tunes come in clutch when im just beat and cant think about drums.

tonights tune is from the mpc live 3. im slowly getting faster with it, the clip matrix is working well for me but i really got figure out how sequences work. i think that would probably end up being faster for me, but hey maybe not. i busted out the compressor on the bass and it got it real juiced up. i really like the live 3 pads, they feel super nice and i actually like doing varied velocity drumming with them.

made todays on the op-z at a neighborhood park. this op-z was a little janky in the normal ways but i fixed up the double triggers with deoxit and the popping out encoder with some tape and now it feels good to use. never loved playing melodies/chords on those tiny keys, but i intend to use this with the ep133 primarily so im not too worried about it. the first half is kinda bunk, the back half is better

i made two tunes yesterday but i forgot to record one off the mpc sample before i put it in the mail, so that one is lost to time. but i made this one on the ep133 sequencing the op-z. its a good combo.

this is a bit of a filler tune made on the ep133 with some sounds sampled off the op-z. i was supposed to pick up the op-z oplab module today but when i requested for the package to be held at a pick up location, i accidentally tapped on the fedex that is directly next to the walgreens i wanted to pick, and ended up missing the fedex store by 8 minutes. oh well, ill get it tomorrow.

but fedex sucks not just because of that, their whole mobile website sucks so hard. i dont understand how you can be one of the biggest delivery services in the country and have such a bunk mobile website. i blame their horrible website for this mix up.

no track tonight, but i played around sequencing my little diy modular rack with the op-z and got to some pleasant places. im very excited for my break from classes in four weeks or so. i want to take some modular stuff out to a field with the op-z and zone out for as long as the weather allows

Good FM learning resource for a Volca

I went through a chunk of Massey’s book COMPLETE DX7 (always out there somewhere online as a PDF, or to read on Internet Archive) with a Volca FM, and it was enlightening. The good thing about this combination is that the Volca almost exactly matches the DX7 engine, so you can do most of the step-by-step exercises in the Massey book with the front panel of the Volca. fwiw

Edit: I see I’m answering a post from a year ago. Oh well.

Plumbers tape does not have adhesive, wrap it tight and it’ll hold.

@percussionboy thanks for the tip anyhow! i have since sold the volca fm but maybe it’ll show up another day.

@Kegeratorz thats what figured would be the case but the little post on the underside of the op-z knobs is so small and slick that it was more of a pain than it seemed to be worth. i ended up brute forcing it by using a tiny bit of packing tape instead. it worked but the encoder isnt totally flush with the body now and i dont think i can get it out without causing some cosmetic damage. oh well, encoder still functions like it should, live and we learn.

gotta catch up posting these tunes! this has probably been the most challenging month of tunes i’ve done yet. simply because i am swamped with schoolwork and staffing at my job has been shaky so ive had more on my plate there as well. but still getting some nice sounds out of the practice. feeling fine with missing days, what happens, happens! gonna keep on trucking, i’ve got an og op-1 waiting for me at the finish line.

i think this one was made on the op-z? probably, ive been having fun with loose unquantized recording on there, primarily because i forgot where quanitizing is and havent looked it up yet.

made this a couple days back when my ep-136 came in, im locking into the EP workstation and gonna do my best to stick with it. feels like a set that i would be proud to perform would be nice for my life. sampled sounds off the op-z into the ep-133 and added in some ep-136 fx.

made this one yesterday on the ep-133 with op-z samples. got real sleepy in the backhalf.

made this one last night on the ep133 with opz sounds, this one is groovy at points. ive got a renewed drive, went on a good date with a cool girl yesterday. seems like this ones gonna be a thing, looking forward to wherever it goes!

missed a few days, realizing im entering the time of my life where i probably cant just bust out tunes all the time. time sure is limited. school/work/relationships take up a bunch of space! i did bust out the workshop system build the other night, been playing around with that instead of trying to make a standard tune. this one is just some playing around on the workshop, im starting to get a grasp on the 4 voltages buttons. still gotta actually read the manual tho

made this on the ep133 with op-z synths, i’ve got four tracks in my all ep133 set now. looking forward to having some time to practice mixing with the ep136.

a new cyberpunk track

Right now just wrapped up some trance techno music. Working on next project think I want to try my hand at deep dub techno and deep house music production to put all my drum machines to work.

I like the old school jazzy hip hop style you have going on there- great job!

@sacguy71 thanks for listening!

well this music may kinda fizzled out for me, but for good reasons! been starting a new relationship which has been great, thought it was kind of interesting that my last relationship ended in the middle of music may two years ago, wouldnt have guessed this thread would be both a tune dumping ground and a chronicle of my recent relationships. but it feels nice to have real reasons to not be able to make tracks, like connecting with a new person and working on schoolwork for my masters degree. still got some fun tracks out of the month! and my creative focus has shifted towards building a whole set between two ep133s so getting a tune done every day isnt as much of a priority. i completed my TE workstation: two ep133s, ep136, op-z, op-1. feeling focused, feeling locked in. im also feeling like taking a break from Elektronauts. not really filling my cup like it used to, my needs are changing. to whom it may concern: thanks for hanging out
