Like the Tefty & his wife who’s a singer.
She must of not know how dangerous this synth life can be. Some of these analog vs digital debates can get ugly real fast. RIP, to your moms! There’s no peace for us
& that’s OK.
In the mpc world, the debate is always:
The new mpcs don’t sound as good as the previous generations.
My 2000xl which had crap sound back in the 2000s suddenly became more vintage sounding once the new mpcs hit the market, and new mpcs sounded too clean. Tale as old as time lol
My first MPC was blue & red MPC1000 know for it’s “horrible” clear sound back then, but now it’s loved for it’s “gritty” sound. Whatever!
You can name clips, scenes, which I make use of all the time and iirc you can also colour clips, is that not enough to organise and identify which scene/clip has unique settings?
Regarding duplicating scenes, that’s already there, I think they call it snapshot or capture or something, there’s a little plus on the icon.
Snapshot is locking all the parameters settings across a row. You can a copy row via long press on one & selecting Copy. Then you paste it over one or more rows.
What’s the one that’s creating a row of whichever clips are currently playing, then?
I am currently AFL but I think it’s called something like “capture and insert” or something. I also use this a lot. I jam with different clips in different tracks and if I like what I am hearing I do this “capture and insert” to create the song scene by scene. When I am done, I play the scenes manually and record to arrangement where I later add automations.
That’s 'Insert & Capture". One of the coolest features when sequencing a bunch of clips in the matrix. It’s found in the same popup menu as Copy row. Keep in mind it inserts a new row & doesn’t copy over any current rows, tho I wish that was an option.
I think it’s better that it inserts. I basically use it instead of copy paste cause it’s one move instead of two.
Might sound dumb, but how is disk streaming doing anything different to ram? It still loads into sample pool and not directly into clips, so what’s the difference?
The main difference is that it doesn’t consume main memory. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same. Streaming is especially suited for playing long samples or loops, as it allows playback without loading the entire file into RAM.
Ok thanks. I do wish when using audio clips you could browse samples from your library not just a list of names of sounds from sample pool. I thought this is what streaming was for
On the main screen, select the tab showing the audio track name, then hold the Shift and click the on-screen “CLIP +” button to choose an empty clip. This lets you place loops directly into the clip from the file browser. Using this method, files are automatically streamed.
Lots of people want to get rid of their Live II right now so you can get basically new ones with warranty for 600€. Do you expect prices to go up again in about half a year? I‘d kinda want to give Live II a shot but don’t have any time to learn it for at least a few months.
Nothing like having it there staring at you to motivate you to begin the journey when ready.
Feels like i’ve been waiting an age for these to come back in stock, but been seeing a few b stock L3’s returned, so it’s tempting to go for one of those instead.
If someone were to buy B Stock though, would they get the full software package as if buying new? Anything to look out for, like say a previous owner adding the software that came with it to their own account, or other possible problems?
The next batches were showing as Christmas in some cases a while ago, but most are showing late November/early December now, so maybe Akai have ramped up production. Has to be worth the £100 savings then if I were to buy B Stock, so I don’t want any problems.
I think L2’s will be easy/affordable for the foreseeable future. I get the sense that Akai has been selling a ton of them for a long time. Long enough that there will be no shortage of people selling them to fund L3 and the next SE, Keys, One, X, Force, etc any time soon. I have mine listed even though I’m not really letting it go yet. Just want to know what the market loooks like. I have a bundle with bag, decksaver, 512 SD for $800 and get offers from $7-800 often.
Nope. Akai is really kind to new owners. You automatically get the bundled software it came with new plus whatever was on sale at the time of OG purchase. When I got my live I got everything the previous owner got with purchase plus the current producers bundle from last year. Needless to say I was surprised, impressed and grateful.
MPC’s are tanks. If there’s no sign of outside trauma it’s likely good but I’d check inputs, ports, button lights, etc for obvious issues. The rest will only be evident after spending some time which is true for buying new. I wish Akai had a software check like Elektrons but so far I’ve never had an issue so I guess QC is a strong area for Akai.
Awesome thanks, this is not obvious at all
The Live 3 is not an incremental upgrade. I would argue it’s an even bigger upgrade over the Live 2 than Digitone 2 and Digitakt 2 are over their OG’s. And you see how long those OG used prices remained very good. You can still pick up good deals on those.
Then again, it does cost a lot more than the Live 2 did. It’s a much bigger investment to make the upgrade. So I’m not sure how comparable this situation really
